WhatsApp will share its users information with Facebook

Postby nela13 » 07 Jan 2021, 10:34

WhatsApp users are receiving a notice in the app regarding new terms in the privacy policy, stating that the data will be shared with Facebook so that personalized ads can be displayed. These changes will take effect on February 8 and users will have no option not to accept these changes if they want to continue using WhatsApp.

Note that these changes appear as a contradiction to the promises made by WhatsApp when the app was acquired by Facebook in 2014, when users were guaranteed that their data would remain private.

Are you a WhatsApp user? will you keep using the app after this?

They already share it. Now they share even more. Facebook is Whatsapp owner for 6 years. This is just legal term. Many people expected see more ads on Whatsapp since Facebook holders want back their money. Investiton was 19 mld. dollars.

Yes, it was a big investment but Whatsapp is breaking its promises, even though I read that the new privacy policy doesn’t apply in Europe due to stronger privacy legislation we have here.

I honestly forgot Facebook owned WhatsApp because they've been buying up so many platforms I lost all track. I guess it makes sense that they share our personal details between themselves. In fact, that could have been Zukerberg's plan all along - buy up all these social media platforms and share everyone personal details across them all

Do you know many people consider this move as bad from next reason: After few months od analyzing data they got conclusion they already have most of those data.
How is that possible?
Very simple! Most people have both Whatsapp and Facebook which is true. If you think about it since both is free people have so they bought data which are already present. Invest is not so worth as you look at it this way.

Lucky you. I may have to come out of one of the two. Personally, I feel we should have the option to consent to our information to be given out across all platforms, not forced into anything. Why has Facebook refused to comment? There is something fishy I presume. I have just learned something big, that anyone can turn on you.

According to Facebook, it utilizes shared data for ameliorating their services. For example, the creation of suggestions for you.

I hear you and understand the rationale behind what Zuckerberg's doing. However, it doesn't make it right. He's already been in hot water over this. Anyway, only time will tell if what he's doing is worth it. So far, I see many people in my country jumping ship and going with Telegram and Signal. I suspect it will happen in other countries as well.

I don't really use Facebook or Whatsapp, so I'm not too concerned about this. It's pretty scary how much information these social networks and other services can gather about you, though. Escaping it is almost an exercise in futility since, aside from the fact that your smartphone is literally a tracking device, every smartphone operating system spies on you as well. It would be great to have smartphones that run entirely on free software.

I installed WhatsApp last year but I'm not actually using it I just installed it because a friend of mine doesn't know how to use it so he asked me a favor if I can teach him how to use it.
