household air conditioners

Postby Pousinha » 11 Jan 2021, 14:37

If we live in a country where temperature is able to raise up to 50º or even more, it happens we think about purchasing an air conditioner for the household. My husband, when our house was ready, thought about a samsung air conditioner for the tiniest room (impossible to buy another for the lounge-living room, we couldn't afford, so we choose to better refresh the tiniest, the one that easier and faster overheats, using a big simple fan in the lounge-living room). Until now is doing its job, after 4 years of use, but it needed 2 maintainances/repairings. It does the double role of conditioner and fan (when season is not so hot), being the conditioner feature a little more fragile than the fan. Maybe we didn't purchase the best piece of air conditioner, as it needed those 2 repairs. What I really appreciate is in any way the anti-bacterian tool, connectable at every switch on.

Here our major problem are the coolest months, right now it is so cold that even with the heat turned on all day long it is difficult to warm our house.
I don't have air conditioning but I have my house prepared to put it if I want, we use a system linked to the fireplace to heat the house.

Yes, I know european countries face the other way round matter: how to warm houses. And I know it is reeally expensive, especially for people that live in old condominiums equipped with central heating, instead of individual heating.

This year has been particularly cold and many people don't have means to warm their houses, mostly because they don't have money. It is so sad this situation :(

I understand very well: when I was living in Italy, the boy in the third floor apartment, the floor above mine, had the more expensive heating of the block and couldn't afford pay condominium fees: he run the risk to lose his apartment in a trial :(

It aids in comfortability in houses most especially during the heat season, it keeps the house cold .

Many people are facing serious economic problems, despite the cold, many also lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Air conditioners is a luxury that more than 50% of portuguese population can't afford.

What brand did you purchase? My husband choose a samsung one. This brand is very good for little devices, maybe not the same for air conditioners. Or at least it was only our piece that came with some defects (even solved).

We are not using any AC. I like the preferences here incase we consider purchasing one. Unless I buy one for my family cause I am not the one who is handling the purchases of household items.

Botswana heat doesn't go up to 50 C but my, it gets extremely hot as well, in the upper 40s. So the apartment that we rent has aircons in all the rooms. However, the electricity is very expensive, so we can't have it on ALL the time - only when it becomes unbearable. But even then it's only ever for a limited time.

We bought an AC in 2013. It worked excellently during the 1st 2 years but after that it needed some major or minor repair plus servicing each year. We plan to look for a new AC when winter arrives.
I hope we can buy a better one.

Asian countries have tropical weather, last 2 weeks was really cold with continuous rains for 2 weeks. Air cond is not required. COuld take a break and save utility bill. However, this week the temperature is rising, weather will be dry and humid which means air cond is required, bills going up . Maintenance required due to lack of gas or dust accumulated in the filter. Nope, I never had installed any air cond. Cannot afford it.

AC can work only 3-4 years without any major repairing and after it wants some more maintenance. Your AC is 8 year old so it is better to replace it
