amd vs nvidia

Postby Pousinha » 21 Jan 2021, 02:57

Until I know, a pc carrying a graphic hardware nvidia brand is to be chosen when the main intention is GPU mining (talking about cryptocurrencies mining). I mentioned pc and not notebook because experts say notebooks aren't good for mining: their life would be reduced. While amd graphic would be better for students that need a pc or notebook for academic jobs (and some video editing too).
Which of them do you prefere?

I prefer AMD. My current system has Intel and NVidia because they were the clear winners at the time when I built my PC, but if I do a new build in the near future, it will be an all-AMD build.

Nvidia had been suggested a lot to gamers though but they are not really that durable.

What I use now is AMD but I do not use it as mining it's for personal use only until now it is still running smoothly.

In fact, I won't advise mining with an AMD, even desktop pc: it would shorten device life :? .

I think that AMD and NVidia will eventually have to throttle mining on regular GPUs and create GPUs specifically for cryptocurrency mining. That's the only way to ensure that crypto miners won't buy all of the stock and make it impossible for anybody else to get GPUs.

I used to be interested in mining before because it used to be popular. Many people say that they make a lot of money but I have a friend who advised me not to do mining because he said he already experienced it and it cost him a lot of money and his electricity went up but he only had a small income so he stopped it before he went bankrupt.

Yes, I heard about electricity issues too. Maybe people who made a lot of money began to mining between 2009 and 2013 when it was still possible to catch whole bitcoins. If various bitcoins were mined, they covered all electricity costs and the rest was all earned money.
