Years ago, a friend of mine told me he was using a mobile as a modem for his PC, to navigate online. The matter was, if I remember well and don't mistake, his family couldn't afford to pay a monthly fee to have a domestic wifi service. As years ago the domestic wifi costs were higher, at least in Europe and Latin America. I tried to do the same with my phone (convert my phone in a router), but it didn't work. My husband tried too and it didn't work. Do you have any idea about what got wrong with all our attempts? What the requirements to convert a mobile in a router?

I may be wrong but I what I think they did was to set up the mobile phone as a WiFi HotSpot. So what you do is, go to settings on your phone, under Network connections, look for HotSpot. Set your preferred password and switch on. This means anyone can search for your phone on their WiFi list and connect to your phone data using the password you set up.

I am also using mobile to contact my laptop with internet.

I use same thing but it will destory your smartphone in a year. Battery will be damaged since hotspot warm up smartphone.

I undestand. My friend can justify his attitude because years ago it was cheaper to buy a new mobile every year than to pay a heavy fee for domestic wifi (at least, it was cheaper in his geographic area).

Using a mobile as a modem for his PC, is that a hotspot? Your mobile phone must have data for you to be able to connect to another device.

I don't know about it but is too much low and we can use limited data.

I rather use a router than a telephone because of interference of phone calls and also my telephone is usually slow when the hotspot is on.

For using phone as router better choose some old phone. Even battery is bad it can stay plugged in all time.

I am not using my phone as a router but I can use it as a wifi spot and it goes well. My phone's internet is actually faster than the wifi that I have. But it's nicer to type in pc than in phone or laptop.

I have used it before after discovering it quite by accident when my internet was on the blink. A message popped up on my desktop asking if I wanted to tap into my phone internet to create my own personal Wi-Fi hotspot and I did. However, I think I'll be looking into something else I've recently discovered that doesn't harm my phone. I need something as an alternative for when my internet is down.

My experience is not far off from most of the people. i have used mobile Hotspot to connect to my pc for a while now and it works pretty well can't complain.
