Chinese Social Media had been bullying Simu Liu

Postby Netherrealmer » 06 May 2021, 21:12

Shang-Chi is Marvel's first Asian superhero, he debuted way back in 1970s and after 6 decade, he will finally be on big screen. Asian Canadian actor Simu Liu got cast as the Chinese Superhero. Well the Chinese social media had been cyber bullying him, calling him ugly. They don't like that he is very ethnic looking.

Chinese Male standard of beauty have high bridge nose, big eyes skinny lean muscular body. Bruce Lee is Quarter Danish that is why his features was a hit in China back then.

I guess They cannot Market this to China because China is racist to a pure Chinese guy who doesn't look like Chinese male standard of beauty.

These are the type of actors Chinese audience swoon over.

It is sad when the number one discriminator of people of color are their own people.

Simu Liu just ignore the hate comments he get from China because he gets more positive comments from Americans and Europeans.

For a country that is not colonized, China seemed to develop a colonial mentality.

I remember Chinese Audience also calling Lucy Liu ugly when Americans think she is hot.

Simu liu is not affected by the hate he gets from Chinese Social media:

I totally get that. When I was growing up, African-Americans always preferred light-skinned African-Americans over the dark-skinned, be it men or women. The lighter your skin tone, the prettier you were thought to be. Although I can remember one girl in my school who was an exception. Everybody thought she was gorgeous. Her skin was a really dark brown and so smooth. Her skin was healthy-looking and she glowed. Everybody thought she was exceptionally beautiful. She was so pretty all of the boys in the class agreed that she should play the virgin Mary in our school Christmas play. :D

When I started watching Indian movies, I realized they did the same thing. I watching a movie and the Indian girl said to her mother: "Face it mom! You have a darkie daughter. You know it will be hard to get me married off."

Strange world we live in. The most we can do is teach our children to value themselves and to recognize they are not required to live by the "beauty standards" of others.

Chinese people basically told him that his movie will flop in China because he is doesn't have the looks of an ideal Chinese man. Well he is marketed for Asian Americans and people wants diversity. I think more Ethnic looking people of color should get breaks. Mixed Asians like Keanu Reeves can get white roles anyway.

They only way they get breaks is if they make those break themselves. I have heard a few celebrities of color say they couldn't get the roles because people were not even making the movies. So they stated making their own movies.

You bring up an interesting point though. When I first started watching Korean dramas, I noticed that even though they looked Asian, they had a variety of very different facial features. Whereas the Japanese and Chinese looked more "homogeneous". ( ?? I guess that's the right word. ??)

Too bad that the Chinese don't recognize what is good for them, this guy looks fine still has the Chinese look! at least he gets recognized by the Americans, sometimes i wonder why is color so important, i can try to understand looks but color, i don't get it.

The chinese though don't want a Chinese Looking actor, they want a mixed looking actor like Bruce Lee and Keanu Reeves. They disliked him for having round nose instead of high bridged nose. Which is so terrible. Jackie Chan was forced to have plastic surgery before he was launched as an actor for looking too Chinese.

Jackie Chan had plastic surgery? On his nose?

Seems like when a lot of celebrities get famous, first thing they get is a nose job.

I remember a funny video about it.

Yeah they gave Jackie a nose job and eyelid surgery to make him look less ethnic. He was being used as Bruce replacement after Bruce Lee died. Asia have a weird Eurocentric preference when it comes to beauty. 80 percent of actors in Indonesia and Philippines are white passing mixed people.

Shang-chi now makes $146,200,000 in the box office and killed it in the US box office alone. He doesn't need China to prove he is a draw. He is completely Unknown and he got his first box office win.

I knew it was destined to do well. There's this cool and deadly thing about him that sold the trailers big time. How could anyone be harassing this guy? Where are they now? This one is in the lead by far, well received!

Chinese social media harrasses him because they think he is ugly, Chinese beauty standards dont like ethnic looking people. They even called Lucy Liu Ugly. They like Chinese actors with bigger eyes and softer faces. You know the KPOP look.

The Alt-right Youtubers are attacking him because he is not a straight white male.

He used his photo as a stock photo model to troll his haters who said his movie will flop.

There couldn't have been a more appropriate response. What will they say now, he's having too much fun?

...and look where his 'ugly' got him. It's a sad situation though when your 'standards' don't like your own self in its purest form. That's all I can say.

The Youtubers who attacks him still make videos about him saying his movie flops because it didn't make 1 billion. Its a movie released in the Pandemic with an Unknown actor about an obscure superhero from the 70s. It made $264,556,500 since it was released. It will make more after it gets a disney plus release.

China sadly banned this movie. China always have issues with movies with Asian AMerican leads.

He doesn't need China though because he made $365,504,136 by far. All those bullies are now silenced except from the Youtube Vloggers who are alt righters.

Apparently comments made by Simi Liu were deemed insulting, hence the ban. I saw that on Game Rant who was reporting from Variety. I didn't see any insult in any of those mentioned but as implied, they probably just don't like the idea of this whole thing (and this man 'posing' as one of us). So he doesn't qualify to represent even though he was born and lived there before going to Canada? [Look out for Eternals too. Some believe it also will be banned there].

It was both celebrated and censored. On certain platforms any mention of her or the winning would have been erased. Still some have found creative ways of celebrating without mentioning her name.

His movie just made $403,700,495 and he didn't even need China to make that amount. The Youtube Vloggers attacking him left him alone.

I knew they'd eventually wear themselves out. They would only continue if he had failed. Now he silenced them with the results.
