Has technology impacted the future of relationships?

Postby sweerie_banana » 17 May 2021, 10:30

My ex was a coder, oh why do we talk about that bagger? I think he left me cause of my influence on technology, oh well he knows best.

I have realized that technology has an impact on our friendships and relationships. The meaning and dynamics of relationships have been defined by the use of technology.
How comes an interpretation of the virtual me and the real me is intercepted in people's minds.

I have become nothing but isolated. I have had fewer friends and I am such a loner. Society is so judgemental.

I know the technology has advanced on communication but we are not better communicators. We do not address the issues we face and this just forms a paradox to my fragile mind.

I still have friends because I zoom them regularly. That depends on how much you crave social interaction. I am such an attentionwhore to my friends that I always contact them despite of the Isolation caused by the pandemic.

Technology is everything nowadays but it all depends on how you take it and how you want to use it to your advantage. It's true that it has impacted the future of relationships but we don't have to go by it if we can avoid it.

@ Nevertherealmer, you have used the internet to your advantage, and that is nice.

@Chikitta, I just can't bring myself to stay off social media and the internet.

Technology strongly improved my quality life. I was born in a region where friends and relationships are inherited the same way as material goods and money: the number of friends, even the possibility to make friends most depends on how well acquainted were your grandparents and how well acquainted are/were your parents. Most of people is never eager to new friendship, too scared to extend any new friendship. The same happens when people choose the person to marry: they preferably marry a person presented by shared friends. No good acquaintances in my former country often means to carry on a life with a single status and maybe lack of friends too. Thanks to technology is possible to fight against this regrettable state of affairs.

Yes with technology , our lifestyle has certainly improved to a large extent , but has impacted negatively when it comes to relationship. Nowadays even small children are busy in operating mobile phones , they dont talk to their elders , no personal communication due to these digital gadgets. Everyone uses whatsapp , facebook , to chat with friends , why not they directly call them and speak or visit their friend's house , have a nice dinner. No , nowadays people have addicted to digital gadgets, they forgot how to even behave when some guests enter their house. This is a very negative thing about technology.

Such is life. Thanks, @Pousinha. I am used to being such a loner by now.

For me technology has only changed it for the better. It was a godsend during lockdown but now that restrictions are being lifted I can go out and meet my friends again. I don't feel that it has impacted it negatively and I think I remember you saying you had a broken relationship which had devastated you. Could this still be weighing heavily on you and keeping you from meeting other people?

I have realized that with the increased use of communication tools- mobile phones, Facebook, WhatsApp(Tools like Viber etc in many countries), people are in fact getting distanced.
I see people getting annoyed at simple things like one person not responding to what one has shared.
The days of lesser phone calls and postal mails was better for personal relations.

True. It irritates me when someone is using phone while we're having a conversation. I felt disrespected. And most apps especially social medias are great at getting our attention because those are designed to get our attention as much as possible.

Technology has its positive and negative impacts on relationships, family, romantic or friendships. One positive is that it keeps us connected no matter the distance or in such cases like that of the pandemic. But the negatives includes reducing the real connection and actually learning real skills like in communication. People need to be aware of such negatives and positives so as to evade the negatives and enhance the positives.

I see you have read my article on blood is no longer thicker than water and that explains what technology has done to relationships. Brother, sister, nieces nephews, cousins et al are no longer on the same page of relationship any more

I loved the article.
