Youtube disable comments on all family vlogs now

Postby Netherrealmer » 15 Jul 2021, 15:16

One fo my favorite vlogs on Youtube is Justin Rhodes, He is a farmer and homesteader giving tips on farming. He is also a dad and a husband so his wife and children appears on his videos. Youtube disables comments on all videos with children on it because Coppa wanted to protect children. Youtube is wondering why they are losing younger audiences , Well they are leaving to tiktok because comment section remained open.

Family vlogs are not operated by children, they are operated by the parents but yeah Youtube will disable comments on Your video if you have children on. Your video will earn less if there is no comments. Coppa does this to Youtube as their way to protect children.

How about banning Elsagate channels, that will protect children. The children are not even the focus on the Justin Rhodes Vlog but the farm. His community is not toxic people nor predators, the audience are farmers. So do not show children on your Youtube videos.

I know there have been child stars like Shirley Temple and Michael Jackson who were exposed to the public eye at a tender age. But to be honest I never really like the idea of including my children, or in my case, my grandchildren on my social media accounts which would include YouTube if I made a video. There are just too many weirdos out there! I feel like I'm exposing them to danger. My daughter allowed her daughter to be on YouTube, Instagram, etc. I would never do that! Hey! I'm the grandma and I can't tell her what to do with her kid.

I am very strict about the rule that I do not share pictures and videos of my children on social media. He might have farmers and good people as his audience but then you never know when some bad pervs can come and pass lewd comments on these children. YouTube has this policy to protect children. He should try making videos without his children. I think his farming videos need not have children.

Even old music videos with children on it have disabled comments, those children from 90s music videos are like adults in mid 30s now. Trailer of Nickelodeon teen shows have disabled comments too

Though the rule has right intention, I feel that they need to rethink about it and come with some new form of rules. Like those children in videos who are now in their adulthood can actually handle the trolls and bullying. Also, there would be places in videos which need to feature children and disabling their comments would be unfair. Seems like all real children need to be replaced with some animated ones.

Coppa said its for the protection of children in comment sections, I don't think there will be children commenting on a farming vlog.

Does this means that some of the YouTubers whose Vlogs I watch and whose kids come regularly on those videos would have comments disabled?
Or is it case by case?

No, but trolls might target the children who appear in the videos.

That is so sad. The videos don't even focus on the children and most children will not even read the comments. They would have thought wise before making such a decision. I know they mean well but most people will move to tiktok due to this.

It's like this. When you're having difficulty trying to "police" perverts and predators, you make your job easy by just blocking them completely! I hate to say this. But there are a lot of perverts and predators out there!

They won't delete videos with kids, they will just disable comments. Non American channels seemed to have some exceptions like those Cambodian cooking channels.

Makes no sense. There are methods the pedophiles can find their way.

Youtube disable comments doesn’t make sense but I think it’s because they gets lots of viewers and likes that makes them earn more.

I agree to some extend that the comments will be disabled for the sake of protecting children, but many people are using their kids to make videos on YouTube because that is what brings in the money. I love watching them personally but i also think it is exposing the kids to pervs that would take advantage. All in all it's a good idea.

There is a cooking channel I follow and the vlogger there is a 40 year old mom. Suddenly her 15 year old daughter took over, Boom comments disabled. I dont know why that mom gave her cooking channel to her daughter. To be fair the 15 year old girl can cook too.

It is right for youtube to disable comments for children because would not want children to get hurt by adults comments
