Do you use a mouse mat, what colour is it, does it matter?

Postby Fergal » 17 Aug 2021, 06:39

When I started working from home as a result of the pandemic, my desk has a wood grain surface and I use an optical mouse. The wood grain surface seemed to affect the optical mouse and cause the cursor to skip on the screen, so I got myself a mouse mat. The mouse mat is black in colour and I feel that if it gets even a small bit of dust, that it affects the optical mouse and causes the cursor to skip. I have to regularly dust off the mouse mat to stop this from happening. Not sure if this is the real cause of the issue or if I am imagining it.

Do you use a mouse mat and do you think colour matters?

I use a mouse pad for work, but not for my personal computer. The pad provided by my company is black and no, the color does not matter to me. My mouse pad comes with a wrist rest though so it's quite comfortable. I also use a optical mouse, but have not experience the dust making the cursor skip.

The texture of my table felt like a mousepad so I stopped using them because they got stinky as they got older.

Mine is black on the reverse and has some floral print on the right side. I use the reverse. No it does not matter what colour it is. The right side did not let the mouse move freely.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Dust shows up more against a black background, so I had just wondered if that would affect an optical mouse.

Same for me. My mouse works perfectly on the surface of my desk so I don't bother with a mousepad now.

My laptop mouse pad has navy blue colour. Whether it's colourful or not, it doesn't matter to me much. I'm okay with either choices.

I use mousepad that is solid single color. Wiresless mouse with laser cannot detect glass surface or wooden table. Unless you use the old scroll mouse with ball.

I don't use a mousepad anymore as the table fits the bill :D
