Dealing With Legacy Tech (Pre Windows 7 app)

Postby johnl0626 » 03 Nov 2021, 06:49

Here's my problem. An old company that for some reason did not bother to upgrade their old database system that was made for the pre-Windows 7 operating system. To be precise it's made using the DOS-based version of FoxPro!

Yeah, I guess some of you here were not even born during that era!

For years they are running Windows 7. With a little tweak, I was able to make their program run. But last week, one of their renaissance-era computers gave up. Three capacitors of the motherboard are bloated.

They bought a new set of CPU minus the HDD. The problem is, Windows 7 will not run once you transfer it to a new board. I don't even think the new board recognizes the old formatting.

The main problem is, Windows 7 installer is no longer available on the Microsoft Website and I can't find any online... Perhaps I can find one in some torrent sites.

My other concern is... will windows 7 run on the new boards?

My other option is to use a newer OS and virtualize windows 7... or even use DOS box.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

My Windows 10 laptop is able to run pre-windows 95 games. You should try contacting their chat technical support. It is available for all countries.

johnl0626 have you tried running the DB on Windows 10?

Does the company still have access to the data? If so, their best option might be to import it into a new DB system.
