MY PC monitor got broken, Instead of buying a new monitor, I used my old smart tv instead

Postby Netherrealmer » 19 Nov 2021, 02:48

My monitor got broken, Its back light gave up from living. It doesn't want to turn on anymore. So I was about to buy a new monitor when I remember there is an old smart tv on my cellar. I purchased a brand new smart tv months ago because I want a 50 inch screen. I have an older smart tv that I stopped using when I purchased the new one. I notice if has a VGI port on the side and that means I can use it as a monitor. Now I converted that old tv into a 30 inch monitor. If you purchased a new smart tv. My original plan is to use it a sa temporary screen but now I decided to use this old tv as my permanent Monitor. Reading articles and watching videos is more fun with a larger screen. Old flat screen tvs can be used as a PC monitor as long as it has a VGI cable port.

That is a good way of using things when something gets wrong or broken.
I need some kind of a cable to connect my laptop USB port to TV's VGI or HDMI port but not sure where and which cables to buy.
New and good smart TVs are at least Rs. 14K (around 190 USD ) and not economical to buy.

You are absolutely right. The came across that in my church. I noticed that they used the television as a monitor and that's because it has vgi port

You are super smart. Most people would opt to buy a new lcd instead of thinking of reusing old items to replace the faulty one.

When my first laptop's screen was broken, I thought twice about having it repaired. It was a 3+ years old laptop and near its end considering the daily abuses of online earning. Instead, I bought a second-hand LCD monitor and hooked it to my laptop. The LCD monitor is still working and I would sometimes connect it to my new laptop whenever I want a bigger screen.

Been using an old 24" TV with the VGA port for ages. I also have my PS3 plugged into the HDMI port. Switch between sources depending on what games I want to play.
