Movie and Videogame piracy is now Legal in Russia

Postby Netherrealmer » 06 Mar 2022, 18:43

Russians love Hollywood movies,British Movies, Netflix Originals, AAA title videogames and all things western not from their country but because of the Sanctions Western entertainment companies banning them for receiving such content and services. It is now Legal for Russians to Pirate foreign content from countries deemed unfriendly by the government. Which is Ironic because they can now watch movies banned in Russia.

Things can sometimes get so ridiculous and well such rules cannot go on much because eventually some ways would be find to curtail the piracy.

For sure, Russians enjoy American movies and TV shows.

I enjoy watching old TV shows and one day I came across an interesting piece of entertainment trvia about “The Rifleman”. This TV show came out in the 1960s and it was the first American TV show that aired in Russia. The first? Who knew?

The Russians loved the show. In fact, when the Russian leader at the time, Leonid Brezhnev, came to America he asked if he could meet Chuck Connors, the star of the show.

That was the 1960s. It's 2022.
Do you want to know how many Russian TV shows I've seen? NOT … ONE!! And …?? I don't care!

For the most part, Americans don't really care what happens in Russia. Sure! We follow Russia closely because it's a major player on the world stage. But we really don't care about Russia! Hardly any of US would stress about not being able to watch a Russian program or want to download pirated copies of Russian movies, TV shows, music, books, etc.

Russian music is actually Good but I won't be feeding their economy for now until Ukraine is free. As much as I miss the music of some of my fave Russian artists, I will not listen for now.

It's a pity that certain Governments' actions can lead to consequences that can hurt their own citizens a lot.
Many Russian peoples' visas to other nations would have been canceled even if they are opposed to the war on Ukraine.

Russia would become the safe haven for pirates, whistleblowers, hackers, dark web traders now. But I am still not sure if they would be able to crack new age PC games so easily as the anti piracy tech is tightening day by day (read Denuvo). As for the open distribution of ridiculously overpriced onlyfans content of some egoistic creators, they deserve to be pirated.

Are you sure? Maybe police is not so good in chasing those but if you get caugth, jails are terrible.
There is almost no judge and court and everything is corrupted.

Maybe bettter US jail than Russian.

Best is hide in smaller countrys. You can faster escape in another country.

Think about Edward Snowden.

Also, as far as I know, the Russian govt. would never punish any individual /organization which cracks US made video games and hollywood movies, because they would love to see those businesses face losses, on the contrary, they might provide assistance regarding any technology needs to carry out their work
