From sling to youtube tv

Postby Streamguy69 » 08 May 2022, 21:23

I had to do a cord cutting experiment so my wife's parents can understand . the first thing we did was get a lower cost internet. then I had to eliminate the cable tv part of it because it would have been too expensive for them. I first tried sling tv which was good for the moment. it was $25.00 for the 1st month and $50.00 after that. not a problem but... there were no local channels such as fox, abc, etc. So Iooked into youtube tv which is free for 2 weeks then $65.00 a month after. a little bit more than sling but the local networks were there. With the cost of internet being $25.00 a month then $65.00 for youtube tv, it comes out to about $100.00 monthly which is split into 2 so each of us only pay $50.00. not too bad considering I was paying $70.00 a month for my half of the internet and partial cable so I am saving money. The best part is the internet is 5G which is way better than 200 mps that we were paying for.

A dependant, my bills are handled by my caregiver (who of-course also handles my paycheck, using it to help with the expenses (a little)).

But we have "smart TVs" and our internet is part of a package deal with our 'telephone' & 'cable TV' (smart TVs ... are connected to the Internet somehow---a lot of the FREE channel-accounts on it ... They give you a webpage to go to & enter a little code on, and then you can access it through your TV).

Our smart-TVs are VIZIO brand machines

That still seems like a lot, although I see that it's less than you were paying before.

Have you looked into getting a digital antenna for the TV? They're often less than $40 and will pick up local channels. Just like the old fashioned rabbit ears used to do, only it picks up the current signal format instead.

isn't Youtube TV free ?
I have a Jio subscription , so I get this smart tv set-o-box with my internet connection with some streaming services , and they give a few streaming services for free , including disney plus and prime video , so it doesn't cost me extra

no it is not. youtube is free but if you want channels like network and national channels, it cost but is way less than the cable companies

Given this high fees, I guess this internet is unlimited. Otherwise, I would not subscribe to this offering, if I were you.
I also suppose you use this internet to earn some income.
