Cell Phone Service at Your Home?

Postby Katrina » 28 May 2022, 16:52

How is the cell phone reception service at your home? I have ATT and I used to have no problems until last fall when suddenly the bars dropped when in the areas of my house where I'm normally at such as kitchen and family room. My husband thought it was my phone that needed replacing until family members came to visit and they had different phones and different service providers and had trouble connecting too.

What kinds of things in the house cause the disruption in service?

I do not have any kind of reception issues with my phone service. I have a 5G service through verizon and maybe you need to upgrade your phone to 5G service

It is an intermittent issue in my household too and I am not sure why the problem happens sometimes but not all the times. I have a 4G set.

I live in a suburban area and cell phone service at our home is generally constantly good.

That was the first thing we considered until family members came to visit and they have newer phones...and their phones didn't get the service bars either.

From what I've learned, if neighbors in my area are using the cell phone service, I could get kicked off until I either restarted my phone or put it in Airplane mode and then took it off Airplane mode so it reconnected to the tower again. Pretty weird. I've noticed Mondays and Wednesdays are the days I get booted from the service so I'm thinking someone in my neighborhood works from home those days!

I have noticed, that the companies which have a good reputation for service in others' eyes generally don't give good service at my house, but the companies those have lots of complaints from other users in case of service works wonderfully at our house. I don't know the reason behind it, but it's quite funny when my friend comes over all their network stops working.

The wall, door are blocking the reception. Change the location. Put in the living room or in the middle of the house, dont put in the bedroom, make sure there is no door close or wall blocking. Or you could get a router, to enchance the reception

Figuring out problems with reception is a hit and miss mission. There could be home construction material blocking signals that can change depending on where you place your home router. There are so many different kinds of things that each have their own signal frequencies that you may have to take time to turn each one completely off for some testing period to find which is causing interference. You may never find it if it is something a neighbor is using.

Although rare, it could even be line problems from your provider. In my case, it was my computer that had issues with connections. I had a terrible time with disruptions for several years. The provider repair service had to check connections dozens of times but they could not find the problem. After probably 50 visits, they finally tested each connection in their lines and found a system component miles from my home that was filled with insects. They replaced that single component and that was what finally resolved my connection issues. It took them several years to find that problem. Cell phone connections may have similar issues in their network. Good luck.
