Accessory Cleanliness

Postby Katrina » 05 Jun 2022, 18:50

I'm bad at this...but here's my question:

Who remembers to clean their mouse and keyboard? How often do you do it? I am good about cleaning my keyboard, but I often forget to clean my mouse. I'm sure it's really unsanitary because I like to eat my snacks while surfing. ugh. I'm going to clean it now. I feel too guilty.

Interesting topic. There is yet another big reason to keep your equipment as clean as possible.

Back in time when it was common to have repair shops for almost everything, I worked with a repair service network. There were something around 65 different services involved. The only thing they had in common was that they repaired something. For example, computers, TVs, sewing machines, restaurant equipment, electric tools, musical equipment and much more.

As I worked with all of them in the network, there was one detail I noted over time. Almost every repair only involved cleaning. Accumulated dirt, dust and other debris makes things operate poorly. It was actually quite rare for any parts needed to complete the repair.

Clean everything and make a point of lubricating any moving parts. Take time at least once a year to open the case and blow out the dust that collects inside, especially any fans or cooling devices. Not only for sanitation reasons, but also to keep everything operating without issues.

I don't have problem with food since rare time I eat and surf. I have more problems with dust. Both my laptops are black and I can see dust everywhere. I also see dust in my classroom. In classroom not even vacuum cleaner don't help.

I have heavy fingers, so Keyboards only last with me for 3 months, so I don't bother cleaning them. I just wash my hands after use.

Change keyboard buttons type and it will last longer. Every keyboard last more than 3 months. Only goes down if it really bad product or you break it.

I am too lazy to clean my keyboard or mouse. One reason for this because it is a Home computer shared by me and my brother, we cannot decide upon who will clean it (a great excuse not to clean 😁). It doesn't matter if they are dirty or clean as long as they are functioning well for us.
