I don't believe there is any law that requires a two-week notice, it's just a suggestion. In most situations, the employers are glad to get you out of their shop sooner, as long as you are going to leave anyway. These are smaller shops where there is a close-knit relationship between most of those who work there and it would distract employees from doing what they are paid for.
