New website security icon in Google Chrome

Postby mrki444 » 13 May 2023, 22:04

Until now, the lock confirmed which page was safe for the user. Such pages contain the HTTPS protocol. The SSL protocol has become the standard because it is easy to buy and install, so research has shown that more and more phishing and other malicious sites use HTTPS, i.e. the SSL protocol. That's why Google decided to replace the lock with a new symbol for website security, the tune. It is not yet certain how security will be confirmed.

Well, it is serious. The hackers keep on devising new means.I think this is a pretty useful information to detect a valid website.

Basically, they will add the hurdle of one more click just to find the padlock.

I don't know why but the green padlock icon seems more appropriate and noticeable. The new icon looks like a settings icon but still new users would not be sure why such an icon would be correlated to the security of a website.

It's supposed to be implemented this year in September.

I also found this version of the icon. It would be like drop down list.

@mrki444 The above icon , though better than the settings one, still does not beat the green padlock icon. That icon was the quickest verification of a site's security , along with the opposite red color strikethrough icon in case of possibly vulnerable websites.

This simbol just show does site have SSL encryption. Scammers and malicious sites at start didn't use it but now they do so it is not relevat in security sense. 95% web sites use HTTPS but 70% malware sites also use HTTPS.
