If you were afraid of ChatGPT, meet the even more dangerous DarkBERT

Postby mrki444 » 21 May 2023, 08:26

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence that collects data from the open internet. The open internet is full of different information but there are plenty of content labels such as 18+ for sites with adult content, alcohol or weapons. Many feel that ChatGPT has become very dangerous with so much information.

What could an artificial intelligence that has access to the dark web be able to do? The dark web is a popular place for criminals where there are no rules, and it contains information about many illegal activities. DarBERT is an artificial intelligence that 'learns' based on data from the dark web. It is being developed in South Korea and is currently not available to the general public.

If you've thought about what ChatGPT can learn based on information from the open internet and whether it will turn against us, what do you think DarkBERT can learn on the dark web?

Yes, it will surely be used for evildoing. Humans always make bad use of powerful technology.

I think we are going to regret it in the near future, the next step is to endow the machines with intelligence and next, I think the movie Terminator will have some similarities to the future.

We already use ChatGPT for not good stuff as cheating on exams, making fake news or fake videos. This is just in humane nature.

First of all, there is a reason it's called the "dark web". Probably not everything in the dark web is bad or dark. But since I can find what I need on the World Wide Web that is used by almost everybody, I don't see the need to wade into "dark waters". Also? Why be scared of ChatGPT? My goodness! They didn't create a monster!

No it is not. Many cyber companys recruit workers there. Some game development companys test some products on dark web where hackers search for backdoors.

Yeah. To me, the dark web is like the neighborhood I grew up in. There were certain parts of the neighborhood, to avoid trouble, you didn't go there. There were certain times at night when you knew not to go out on the streets. But between the hours of 7 AM to 7 PM, you could visit your neighbors, go to the local grocery store, etc. On Sundays you could always go to church: morning or evening services. :D

Hmmm.
This concept known as democracy will turn out to be the Archile's heel of humanity.
I guess South Korean authorities have not intervened to stop the development of the scary DarBERT AI technology owing to the infleucne of democratic principles.

I am watching this space. Keenly.

I'd rather have an Achilles heel than a dictatorship head. Just sayin'.

I don't much info about ChatGPT. It's from from post that it uses AI and it's used it endangers to the user's personal info. That I perceive it, it resembles like the Trojan horse.

The big problem is why it is being developed and introduced to the world?

It could expose some very sensitive data to Criminal minded people and expose law enforcing agencies to unknown dangers.
Perhaps it could create scenarios that one sees in Action Movies, or Robert Ludlum novels.

Currently is not public tool than just for academic research and security agency. Criminal minded people are already present on dark web so they can access some data and without AI. Also I trust creators hide everything sensitive.

First it is DarkBERT not DarBERT (you missed letter).
This official website of their creators.

Interesting topic!

The DarkNet isn't all bad - there's darker and lighter areas of it, just like the normal 'Clear' Net has shadier areas......I don't think I need to expand on that.

As always, technology is neutral. It depends on who is using it.

Of course, the AI gaining something similar to human 'consciousness' might prove to be a handful, because no one knows what it will do - there's this really big worry in some circles that AIs such as ChatGPT have already escaped and created mirror images of themselves in the darkweb, intended to keep the AI 'alive' in case the main instance disappears (deletion by humans, corruption of system etc), and if indeed so, one can only imagine what else it might be doing.

About what an AI that developed itself gathering information from the darkweb...well, I don't what to think about what such and AI might come up with - maybe the next big FTX scandal????

I think Pandora's box has already been opened.....but I do want to stay optimistic.
