AI generated fake Image Propaganda caused hue and cry in Wall Street

Postby Sojourn » 24 May 2023, 07:28

The AI, where people are now using just prompts to create realistic synthesized images and that too for free, showed its dangerous outcome this time on the stock market. A, Russian-owned state media account, that took advantage of the Twitter paid-to-verify blue tick system, posted an allegedly AI-generated) photo of a (fake) story about an explosion at the Pentagon, looking at first glance like a legit Bloomberg news feed. Since the post, other news agencies came out to confirm that the image is AI generated, but the impact has already taken place by causing the stock market to dip for a significant amount of time.

This incident just showed yet again, how quickly one will be able to spread convincing misinformation and manipulate the masses across the world. Twitter has banned the account, but I think the purpose has been solved by the perpetrators.

This is just the beginning, unfortunately. These AI techs are yet to be abused optimally by ill-intentioned entities.

I guess such incidences are necessary to alert any relevant authorities of the dangers posed. I maintain that some regulation should be introduced to tame this trend, before it is too late.

I am afraid I don't see much response from the higher authorities like governments across the world. AI tools are proliferating at an alarming rate , and not-so-tech-savvy folks are even getting duped in this regard.

It seems like a hidden nexus is running under the radar between the governments and these high-tech companies that contributing to the development of AI and making them available for the masses.

We never know though it's pretty far-fetched to think so, that this revolution is bringing the ultimate decimation of ordinary folks like us who are not elites.
