Ergonomics and computer work

Postby mrki444 » 03 Oct 2023, 19:57

Ergonomics is the science of workplace conditions. Many consider working at the computer to be harmless, but in fact long-term work at the computer can cause many health problems.

The most common example of working at the computer is improper posture. A bent spine, a painful back, and fatigue are caused by improper long-term sitting. Ergonomics enabled us to develop more comfortable chairs that are adaptable to our height.

The next consequence of working at the computer is eye fatigue and sensitivity to strong lighting. Ergonomics prescribes time intervals when we should take a short walk and look away from the screen.

Are you paying enough attention to your computer working conditions?

I work sitting in front of a computer almost all day, I am lucky because I have a good chair that I adapt to my height besides that I can take breaks whenever I feel that I need them.

Great work! Do you stand from time to time and make few steps? Even if you have good chair you still must sometime walk around and not sit for long hours. Recomended interval is every 45min to 60min.

I faced certain challenges due to Ergonomics.
Now I pay more attention although at times I had to get over some pains - especially on wrists and arms.
A nicely shared post.

Did you try vertical mouse for wrist pain? For arms try set chair at different high or move it from table. Often people sit to close to table.

Vertical mouse is available on Amazon, and Flipkart. But I am not quite sure how much benefit it would offer in terms of providing ease to the arms. Hence hasn't bought it yet.

I have set my desktop with a chair on one corner of my sitting room that I can sit and work very comfortably on it.

Vertical mouse will not help much for arms but it will help for wrist.
For arms you must sit more correct, make distance better, lower or upper chair.

I have bought an ergonomic Silicone gel for resting my arm while working on laptop/desktop. I hope it will prove to be useful.

Where should I put it? Under wrist?
What is difference between it and standard ergonomic mouse pad wrist?

Sorry but the image you posted about ergonomics is not accurate.
You should never look downward at your screen but the top of the monitor should be at eye level.
See the attached image.

It is to be put under the elbow. I don't know how effective it would be or it would be a waste of money.
