WARNING: The portable Ryoko Internet device is junk

Postby OldGuy » 06 Nov 2024, 14:12

After a hurricane disrupted my local internet connection (and is still not repaired after nearly a month and a half), I bought the Ryoko portable modem as an alternate so I could get back online. It has been very unreliable and I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.

The service is from Europe and will not allow me to change settings to a US location. As a result, my email account is giving me fits to try to log in in some foreign language. The weather display is stuck in Europe and will not display my local weather even changing the settings. The battery will not hold a charge. The only way this thing works is if it is plugged in. I found a site with pages of complaints from other users. If you spot ads for the RYOKO portable modem device, ignore it. Looks nice, but it is a scam product.

Their return policy is only good for 30 days. However, the return policy requires that the product is UNOPENED in order to get any credit. How are you supposed to even try it out to know you want to return it if it is unopened? The thing cost $40, but the overseas shipping from here to there is $200 to ship it back. Returning it would cost more that I even paid for it.

After a long tirade with their customer service, they are cancelling my account and issuing a full refund. It is likely this thing will not work at all after they process the refund. Chances are high I will not be able to come back until my regular service is restored. My regular internet provider has scheduled a repair call for 3 days from today. Hope I won't be gone for long.

Can't you get a mobile account to check your email and weather, or even use it for a Hot Spot to run your computer for important services until you get your main Internet back? I just got a call from my son in Charlotte and he says his Internet is working fine.

Working on a New Side-Hustle

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.
