over heat cpu

Postby tomford » 11 Aug 2015, 05:01

my computer fan was making a rattling sound for a long time then it stopped but the heat coming from the side was high. I had the fan replaced but it still felt too hot and my computer started freezing up. I used a program called speccy from piriform and saw my cpu was at 143 Celsius and the mother board was like 95 Celsius in red. what should I do have the heatsink redone with more thermal paste or try to add another fan inside is that even possible. I have a cooling station that doesn't seem to do anything

Overclock the fan maybe? Is it running at the right speed?

Wow! That very high temperatures. Be careful because the laptop may malfunction. You have to check if the fan is even working ... these temperatures are not normal ...

Wow! You can cook on it :)
Open a resturant - You have an oven already :)
Try to take the computer to the lab

I do think that it's time to buy a new one. It seems that it's no longer working and how many years are you using that computer? Is it hot in your area? If the computer technician can no longer fix it then this is a hopeless case.

For what I understand you have a laptop right? If so yes maybe you need to clean the dust from the fan inside and put new thermal paste on the processor. Have you also checked how much cpu usage does your computer use without any applications open? If your CPU is always in use even when you are not using any program then check for malware running on the background. Try also to use the computer in safe mode with network and see if he overheats, if not then for sure something is consuming your computer resources making the processor work too much and consequently the fan won't stop.

someone I talked to said it may be a problem with the bios and mentioned flashing the BIOS. I read about that sounds pretty dangerous and could mess things up if done wrong. I also read about undervolting. it seems to overheat when I watch some videos it will be hot then when I watch some vids it will go from 100c to about 133c or higher

Hahaha. You made my day.

The easiest thing you can do to help keep your computer cool is to give it a little breathing room by removing any obstacles to air flow.

Why don't you give it for a servicing. Also you can try to clean the air vents by using a vacuum cleaner.

My computer's internal fan is the same, a loud crashing sound upon start-up. I am always ready and expecting that something will go wrong sooner or later. I train an electric fan at the back of the computer to augment the ventilation.

Not long ago I created a topic about the BIOS. Update the BIOS is a critical procedure and can go wrong. In my experience, I can tell you that update the BIOS never solved heating problems, at least for me ...
The heating in laptops is normal, but your values are nothing normal. If you do nothing will damage your laptop.
As already mentioned, you should try to clean the laptop air intake with a vacuum cleaner, but it is best to take a repair company (they open the laptop, clean and put thermal paste). If you have hardware knowledge can do it yourself (I do to my computer), but if you have no experience do not, because you can damage the laptop. ;)

That's too hot, I suggest not to use it anymore, and let it check to see what was the problem, I got my computer damage because I'm still working on it even-though its already hot, now its not working anymore.

is it a laptop? is it an HP laptop??? because their laptops tend to overheat due to high temperatures... i've seen totally cleaned up HPs run the cpu in 90ÂșC i was just talking about this in another topic...

and flashing the BIOS won't solve the problem if this didn't happened when it was brand new.
you could try reseting de BIOS to its default values.

If after trying to clean the fans, putting thermal paste and etc. your computer still overheats, I guess the only option available is to throttle your cpu to prevent larger heat outputs. However it is still quite abnormal to reach such temperatures on a pc unless you have it overclocked and your cooling isn't enough. Plus I recommend you to avoid those temperatures as hard as you possibly can because it will most certainly damage your hardware.

I had the internal fan replaced because it overheated before and now it still does, im thinking the tech may not have put the heat sink back properly and did not use new paste, it cut off two days ago because of heat while it was just running on the battery and I got the warning message when I cut the screen back on.

My CPU just died. The computer cannot turn on. The rattling sound of the CPU and fan is what I hear. But it's not getting hot.

If your cpu is getting overheat,it is because ether your fans are not working well or it has come of age.You can try and put it in a fridge and this can work out. There is an office and they did this and i can see it became a solution. If you have also overworked your cpu, then expect it to overheat.

Try a fridge and see if it can work.
