Graphics are not what make me want to play a game, but they are a nice bonus if everything else in the game is good.

I am a sucker for pretty looking graphics, however I prefer a good story and gameplay over it :P They're nice to look at though, usually I enjoy pretty graphics on open world games so I can enjoy the beauty.

Good graphics grab my attention to try and play a game. When I play I want the experience to be a total entertainment from storyline down to interface.

Who doesn't? I mean right now, you can compare graphics of games with each other. I mean if you are used to playing a good looking game then you will look for a game with the same feature. I personally prefer good graphics and cinematic scenes when I'm playing a game. It makes the player fully understand the story and it is more engaging.

Back in the 1980s, no. Nowadays, I think pixelated games on phones is just laziness when so much more can be done.

When I was working with a Japanese software house, I created a game called Games of the Generals. It is like chess that is played by 2 persons interactively (using different terminals). It was a good game and most of my colleagues play with it during breaktime. But one commented that if it is made into graphics then it would be better. The game I created used only simple graphics.

Well some games the graphics matter to me but some they don't. Take a game like Minecraft I love it as it is and some people would say terrible graphics but not really.

Yes I care about all game elements including graphics, design and visual style. You have to look at the graphics on a case by case basis. Depending on what kind of game it is, it might have realistic or stylized graphics. Realistic graphic usually age worse with time.

Image
If you look at this screenshot from The Last Door, you might say the graphics are bad but it's not true. They work within the contest of the game. The game is inspired by the work of Poe and Lovecraft and the idea was your mind should imagine the details and fill in the blanks just like you do while reading books. It works exactly as intended.

Image
Monumental Valley has simple but visually pleasing design.

Image
Alien Isolation looks great with dynamic lightning and good particle effects. The graphics build an atmosphere.

Ofcourse i care !! i love games with amazing graphics but sometimes the graphics of the game is not everything ;) so you need to know the story first and the gameplay :) :D

Always graphics are very important in games nowadays, videogames became very demaning and if you don't have a good graphic card you won't be able to play them nicely, that's why I always check the graphics before installing a game in my pc :)

That depends on the game. If it is horror: graphics, gameplay and story, but if it is shooter just gameplay.

Yes I do care about graphics, this is why Minecraft drives me crazy to watch being played. I like things nice and clear. :)

Graphics matter little to me, however, I am a huge stickler for design, and balance (there's a bit of an overlap with how everything in the actual game is laid out).

Example, if I'm playing an RPG, gorgeous graphics, relatively stable or just lack of technical issues, but if I have to sift through 10 or 12 menus just to get to my inventory or something that I will need to constantly refer to, I'll quickly get annoyed and either look for a mod to make that more convenient, or stop playing sooner or later.

On the other end of design, regarding balance, if I have a selection of characters to choose from, but maybe only one or two characters or classes are viable (Diablo 2 was a big offender of this once you got to Hell difficulty), the game quickly becomes boring and playing other characters either is redundant or the artificial difficulty imposed makes the game more frustrating and tedious instead of legitimately challenging or otherwise interesting. IMO, Dota (despite being an A-RTS/MOBA) strikes the perfect mix and example of balancing gameplay and graphics.

I do believe people nowadays (kids mostly) care a lot about the graphics more than the story behind the game.
I think the fact that we (people on our late 20's) used to play games where the main character was made of a dozen pixels, makes us less demanding maybe. Even though the old games were heavily pixelated, they were simply awesome. Some of them stuck to our minds until the present day.

Of course I care about graphics, but a great story and playability are what matters the most.

I really like good graphics in a game, but for me is not the most important thing. The story is the most important thing, in my opinion.
When I started to play games, the graphics, in the nowadays standards, were awful. But for us, in that time, were awesome. So, our perception about the graphics are changing. Nowadays we are much more demanding because we can :)
And I'm so glad because we have the possibility to play awesome games, with stunning graphics and beautiful arguments... I feel really attached to the characters  You can call me a "butter heart"

Me too. If the game runs smoothly in low graphics, that's all I care.
