HTTP and HTTPS have the same function, ie allow browsers to communicate with servers where sites are hosted. One of the main advantages is that HTTPS is more secure because it encrypts the data. Thus the data can be intercepted, but are not legible for people or computers. This explained in a very basic form ... ;)

I wouldn't have explained it quite as eloquently as win123 and Allius, but i've basically been told the same thing in the past. It's one of the things I look out for if I have some reservations about any one site :)

HTTPS > SAFE with certificate

HTTP > Without certificate - Doesn't mean that its not safe.

Https is mostly secured with a certificate and it is considered safe.Https oftens asks you to confirm the certificate when accessing some websites.

Http is free and can acces any website without problem.

Facebook is one site that runs on HTTPS. My Chrome couldn't access Facebook because of that secured encryption. So I am using Firefox for Facebook, this gives me no question whether it is a secured site or not.

I find it interesting that you can't use facebook on your chrome because of HTTPS... what actually happens? it gives you an error message?

i would tell you to check the clock on you computer, but since you can use fb on firefox, this is not the case of wrong date/time...

you could try adding an exeption on your security options... it might work...

I had the same problem years ago when I used Chrome, I had to change https into http all the time. For me it wasnt loading properly, especially when it asks for permission, we accept it but Facebook acts like nothing happened.

I am glad that FF can access it.

When a website is doing something with your credit card, they will use https...

Most of forums are using https but I see no reason why are they doing that..

Basically Https has a secure protocol that would protect the user when they key in anything into they website. meaning that your keystroke would appear encrypted. So it would be hard to try to get your loging and password.
