What is the best free antivirus application?

Postby Happyland » 25 Sep 2015, 13:51

Do you protect your computer from unwanted viruses? What is the best free antivirus on the market? There are quite a few free antivirus suites out there including Avast, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Defender and Panda.

Well, in my opinion all the antiviruses are good and do their job correctly. But for me, the best antivirus software is Windows Defender. It's light, fast, runs smoothly on the system and you don't have to install it on your computer! I've used it for 3 or 4 years and it works pretty good for me.

Bitdefender has become the real thing for me. Dropped Avast! because of out-of-the-box performance, and lately AVG because of sensitive information sharing. Windows Defender seems a valid alternative but for now I'm having a very good Bitdefender experience.

If you are looking for free stuf then Avira + Malwarebytes = win.
Today having only antivirus without using something for spyware is a bad idea. Some people w8 for their bank information to get stolen and then start thinking about protection :(
Try this Malwarebytes and you wont be disapointed.

Common sense 2015 is still the best. If you have it, you won't need anything else :D

I am using Avira on my laptop because I consider it a great antivirus but before I had Bitdefender which is also a great antivirus. I choosed Avira over Bitdefender because it seems to run better on my machine plus Bitdefender didn't detected a virus on my PC and that is why I changed antivirus.

I use Avira anti virus, whenever my computer is one first it will scan my computer and do the scan work and then I will start working on the computer, I get speed because of this scan, and I am much comfortable with this anti virus.

My son has installed AVG and Avast, and doing periodical scanning too . But inspite of those two, 2 days back my pc was infested with Malware . It has installed so many unwanted files. Then i installed anti malwarebyte and 1 malware and 4030 threats were detected and quarantined successfully. This shows that AVG or Avast can not detect malware and remove it . So i decided to install Avira now

I switched to PCLinuxOS and don't need antivirus anymore. It runs faster without all that background software and in 3 years I have never had a problem with malware of any kind.

I dont think you should have more than one antivirus because they see eachother as threats. AVG will report that Avast is virus and Avast that AVG is threat which must be removed.

Ohh IC. May be that is the reason when i find malware , and installed Avira yesterday , and while scanning i got 2 threat reports from AVG, it says avast is the threat. So now i will retain just Avira and remove AVG and Avast. I do not want to take risk
