Need help with Laptop Question

Postby Jinglebells » 30 Sep 2015, 20:50

We lost power here, about a week ago, it blew out our modem, we had to replace the modem and router. The problem is now my laptop can not connect to the internet. Keeps saying a plug is not connected. Everything is connected.

Our Wireless company tried assisting over the phone and everything they say to do has been done and still not connecting to the internet.

Since we have the new modem and router , the problem started. The net book we have works with the WIFi, only this laptop will not.

Perhaps you need a new network adapter driver for the laptop in order for the wifi to work>

The wifi is working for the other members of the household, I am the only one it is not working for, it worked before the power outage

try going into your network connection and establishing a new connection, look for available networks find yours and connect to it. the network name and password should be on your router

So have you already installed the software for the router on a particular computer? Do you have password on your wifi? Have you tried connecting the laptop in other wifi routers or even a public router. Maybe you should test the laptop first.

I don't think it's that easy to diagnose over the phone, much more over this forum. I guess you have to bring your laptop to the repair shop for the proper technical testing.

I've moved this topic to a more suitable forum. :)

Were you connecting to the internet on your laptop via wifi or hard wire before you got your new modem and router? The fact that it says that a cord is disconnected makes me think you might have used an ethernet cable to connect it to the internet before.

This has happened to me couple of time. When this happens, I try removing the existing network from network setting and add the network again. This trick has worked for me, I hope it also works for you. If this does not wok, try to look at the adapter setting.

This exactly what was done , I am not all sure what my daughter did before that, she was trying many things, then lastly removing the existing network. Thank you for the suggestion..

It was very difficult to not have the internet working on my laptop, I hope it never happens like this again.
