Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) provide anonymity and security to their users, VPNS also circumvent geographic boundaries. The fact that a VPN gives you anonymity increases the number of hackers and spammers using it which is a potential threat to websites. Plus because of VPN users IP address is not it's real address and that prevents websites from collecting data, which can be used to build a profile of the user surfing habits.
Further more if you run a website, odds are that a sizable percentage of the traffic you see doesnt come from human visitors. This unwanted traffic brings with it very serious problems including spamming, content scraping and hacking attempts, and the majority of these attempts come from VPNs and proxies.
One company that is having huge problems with VPNs is Netflix, because many people are using a VPN to access Netflix's contents in a different country than theirs which is a violation of Netflixs terms of service because a user is accessing content he didn't subscribed/paid for it.
