Many people around the world is already using windows 10 and today some got a nice suprise from Microsoft .
Microsoft started displaying ads in the Start menu of the latest version of Windows 10, build 10547. For Microsoft the ads are not ads as they prefer describing them as apps suggestions ehehe.

The ads are shown between your list of most used apps and the Documents, Network, etc. Luckly there is a way to turn these ads off, all you have to do is the following:

Settings > Personalization > Start and toggle the Occasionally show suggestions in Start setting.

Thanks for the heads-up as well as the "fix". I don't have that in my start menu (yet) and didn't know about it at all but now that you said it, I'm expecting that feature any time now.

I'm wondering if there'd be a company that could see potential in paying people for showing ads on their start menus? I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I wouldn't know the specifics on how it would operate and pay and such.

I have Windows 10 and haven't seen these ads yet. Hopefully they'll never show up... not like it'll matter because I can just disable them.

Or you can use Start10 and get more customisable options and get no suggestions/ads in your start menu

Shame that Microsoft seem to be going down this route of "ads" like this to try and make some money.

For most people they want simplicity, something they know and something that is compatible with all their current programs. Linux isn't all things things to most windows users yet.

I love Linux . If wasn't for some programs that only have a Windows version I would be using Linux all the time.
