My Laptop Screen Turns Blue

Postby nakitakona » 01 Nov 2015, 06:00

Why does it mean?

I was on the process of encoding when suddenly the power trips off doe several minutes. When it came back, I put my laptop on and waited for a couple of seconds to minutes. Pop! My laptop was on, but the screen was blue.

I observed if it will get back to normal, displaying the icons in desktop and the rest.

I waited and waited. Nothing happened. The screen remained blue. I had never started to work.

Any idea?

I think you got the blue screen of death. If you're tech savy enough, you can google a solution and try to fix it yourself. It may or may not work. If it doesn't, you are going to have to take it to the shops to get it repaired.

Change your CMOS battery and you are good to go, it means that you have to open your laptop for that matter, or if you have the budget, send it to a technician. You can research too on how to open your particular brand and model of the laptop that you are using so that you can be guided.

The CMOS battery is that shiny disk-shaped battery which looks like a coin, it may be the culprit of your laptops BSD or that "Blue screen of death".

Oh dear, that doesn't sound good at all! I wouldn't even know where to start to diagnose the fault, so it's great that you have some well informed people here such as kataomoi and Geamer to give sound advise. I would probably have had my husband to give it the once over. He's not a IT technician, so we would probably have ended up calling in someone with that expertise. Sometimes you're best off either taking it in or calling out someone who knows what they're doing, rather than poking around and risking causing further damage. Good luck :)

The blue screen can be caused by software or hardware problems. To solve this issue you will need to turn off your pc and check if it starts Windows normally, if not you can try to start windows in safe mode and after try to turn back time on your PC doing a System restore. I believe for your descrition than this is more a Windows issue than hardware one. Could you update us with more information about this issue to see if we can provide you a better support :)?

Oh yes, the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. I am quite acquainted with this dreaded screen. The previous laptop that I had starting to show this screen practically on a daily basis, and sometimes more the once a day. There were times when I had a hard time getting my computer to reboot after the fact. There were times when I had no choice but to put my computer in safe mode to get it up again. There are programs online that can help with such a problem, I did try one and it worked for awhile.

Have you tried to switch it off and then back on? There are times when BSOD happens like a warning but still allows you to use your computer again. So you can try to reboot it again but make sure to wait for a couple of minutes in between shut down/reboot, otherwise, it might lead to harddisk failure.
