My Computer Stops in the Middle of My Work

Postby nakitakona » 04 Nov 2015, 09:38

It Stops suddenly!

I am in the middle of my job encoding a document when my computer suddenly stops and I couldn't save it. I press the function key like F5 to refresh my work. I doesn't work.

I try to press ESC several times, the same no action is made. I wait for another minutes hoping my computer gets back to its normal function. But to no avail.

If I am going to shut it down, well my long encoded document won't be saved and It is impossible for me to rewrite it for I couldn't memorize it.

What I did. I grabbed my cellphone and took a picture of those parts of my document displayed on the screen and reencode them later after I rebooted the computer.

Have you experienced this? Why it did behave like that? And what did you do to recover your document?

I think the safest thing to do is always to save frequently. That's the only way to ensure you won't lose data. Or maybe you can work on an online platform like Google Docs so you'll be able to access your work from other places.

Based on what you said, your computer might've just have been frozen. If it doesn't happen again, then don't worry about it. Lots of computers freeze up every once in a while. If it does happen again, then maybe I'd be concern and take it to the shop.

If you are doing this to earn money, then your computer is a tool and must be treated as an integral part of your necessary work environment. If it is locking up regularly, it is effecting your earning potential and needs to be evaluated for replacement or repair sooner, rather than later.

Working on a New Side-Hustle

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

There are several reasons for a computer to freeze and get the famous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on a regular basis. Some of this reasons are related with virus and malware infections others to problems with the hardware or the Operating System.

- Virus and Malware

You can do a system check using many free tools, some I have mentioned before in other posts like SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes to check for Spyware. To check virus you can use Bitdefender scan online.

- Hardware issues

Hardware malfunctions “confuse” the computer by not allowing it to do the tasks it’s trying to do, so to prevent further damage the PC freezes. If the fans are not working properly the system overheats and you get that lovely blue screen, so you can start by checking them, sometimes is enough to clean the dust. If this does not work then you should take the PC for a technician to check it because the problem can be with one the memory, hard disk or even the motherboard.

- Operating System Sometimes a system restore can fix this but before doing it make sure you do a checkdisk to assure the problem is not in the hard disk.

As far as I remember in other posts you mentioned issues with Virus and with the Checkdisk running on the Start Up, if we are talking about the same PC then I really think you should need to check it with a technician as soon as possible otherwise you may loose work and important data saved in the HD.

No, it's not. My laptop was issued to me by my employer in discharging my duties and responsibilities as a head of our branch agency. Earning online is just a hobby.

When your computer hangs, it's either a lack of memory or a virus. The usual reaction is to check for viruses. Once eliminated, you can proceed to the checking of your memory card.

What exactly happens? Won't the document respond, the entire desktop or the entire PC?

Can you take a picture of the not working PC if possible?

if its a work computer then give it to them to fix don't tinker with it and end up liable for any damage done when you aren't trained in computer repairs

So are you encoding using MS word? If you do, have you tried to recover the document from its own auto-save function? Microsoft word autosaves our documents every x minutes, not sure how often though. So in case you missed to do ctrl-S on your own, your machine does it for you. It might not save up to a point right before your machine crashed but it is better than losing everything.
