Should I buy a new phone or not?

Postby Geamer » 09 Nov 2015, 11:45

My phone is a dual SIM type of a basic phone, it features a money detector which has an ultraviolet light that can be triggered by pressing the button for it. Now the problem is that I think it is damaged because not only it is hard to charge (charging takes many hours), it also cannot receive or send texts anymore.

A friend texted me and I haven't receive it sio I have to ask somebody to verify it for me. Both SIM cards in the phone doesn't work, the other SIM card is always in the emergency mode which simply means that it is the fault of the phone and not the SIM card because both have an adequate amount of prepaid loads.

I really do not want to buy a new one, in fact I was looking for my old Nokia 3315 around the house and I cannot seem to find it. There is now a need for a new phone because it is quite essential now for my life. I was wondering if I would buy immediately or not, it sucks really to have a non-working phone, I hope I could find that 3315 or I am off to buy one, or wait for this stupid phone to work again.

From the description, it looks like it's time to say goodbye to your phone and buy a new phone.

I found the Nokia 3315 phone, I am recharging it now and I hope it works again. Although I want to buy a new one and found one to buy, I may just postpone it if the nokia will work.

If you do end up needing a new phone, I would recommend getting a very cheap smartphone. You can probably find one at Walmart or Target. You can download apps on it to help pay it off. I don't think getting a basic "traditional" phone is worth it any more because once they break, you have to buy a new one (it's hard to find people to fix those phones because they usually stop selling the parts). Whereas, you have a higher chance of fixing your smartphone nowadays.

Thanks for the kind advice @kataomoi the problem is that, I do not want to buy cheap because I want a good capacity battery and the cheap ones are thoise that have less capacity in terms of battery as well as other features, so that really is a dilemma for me, that is also the reason that I cannot buy because one phone has this but doesn't have that and I end up not buying LOL.

Do some research online and you just might find something. My sister got my mom a pretty cheap phone from Walmart for Christmas last year and it's pretty good. It is an off-brand, but it works just as well as the Samsung phones. You might want to start looking soon because if you find one that fits the bill, you might be able to get it on Black Friday/Cyber Monday when they have their sales.

I recently bought a new Motorola Moto G (3rd gen) phone, because I was having problems with my old HTC Touch and I never realized how much more advanced the new phones were, so I am not sorry at all. The battery lasts for days (instead of hours) it is a LOT faster and some of the new apps I have are amazing to me. Even something as simple as setting an alarm or calendar item is so much easier now I find myself using them more.

Motorola has really stepped it up n the aesthetics department! There used to be a time when I would never have considered one, but now they have these really nice models out!

@Geamer....I have a little Nokia smart phone, you really can't go wrong with Nokia. -and no, I don't own Nokia or have shares in the company LOL I'm just just saying it's a good phone.

Well it sounds like you might need a new phone, I don't know what kind will be the best for you or how expensive. It can be a real headache deciding on what kind of phone to get, I put it off as long as I can, s I do not like phone shopping.

Alexpress has 11 hrs left on a big sale (which includes tech): http://www.aliexpress.com/af/category/5 ... 9&origin=n is the direct link to their phone deals. Another option is looking on an auction or classifieds site and seeing if you can pick something up second hand.

Does the battery last for days even with the internet on? I usually keep my internet off until I need to use the apps that require it (all my rebate and money-making apps), because otherwise my battery only lasts for a day. the Motorola sounds like a good phone, but I don't know how much it would be to get an unlocked one. Also, is it a big one or a small one? I prefer smaller, so it fits easily in my pocket.

It's 2 3/4 X 5 1/2 and very thin. The one I purchased from Motorola directly came unlocked. It lasts for days if you don't use it much, but if you had something constantly running from the Internet it may not. When I want to do things online, I wait until I am home and use Wi-Fi. Even then, I haven't noticed any problem with battery life. They did give me a 30 day money back guarantee, so you could order one and try it. I bought the one with extra memory for just over $200.

It seems a good brand, I tend to read reviews before I purchase, I really am looking for a good battery life because it is useless if a phone would drain out more quickly even in a normal use.

One of the basic functions such as sending or receiving text messages doesn't work? It is most definitely time for a new phone. Say your goodbyes and get yourself an Android. Blu is a good phone.

I have no problems with battery life, but regardless I wouldn't make that a deal breaker. You can pick up a remote charging device for $20 or so and make any phone hurdle that problem.

Are you kidding? Nokia 3115 is already old. It came in the market in 2002. So it is already 13 years since its announcement to the field. Nowadays, cellphone is touch-screen. It seems to be obsolete or you are out of place if you still use it. Buy a new one, the latest model of Samsung, Acer, etc.

Here's the Nokia 3115:
