Alert: New away of phishing attacks

Postby darkthorn » 27 Nov 2015, 23:10

Hello my friends,

I would like to alert you to a new threat on internet. According to the news people from Canada, Dubai, Bahrain and Turkey and other places around the world have received emails notifying them of terror alerts in their area. These emails contain information on how the reader can remain secure, The emails have two attachments, the first attachment is in reality what the mail states but the second attachment is a “Trojan” to attack user’s PC.

The email looks like it was send by an original source because it has the signatures from local law enforcement agency’s officials.
Be aware that this is a new way of installing malware on your PC and you should not open the attachments.

You can read the news here: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/terrorist-a ... 21839.html

I have never seen a phishing attempt that wasn't so obvious a brain-dead monkey could avoid it. My favorite one is when I get a call from a boiler room (dozens of phone calls talking from the same room) and the guy says he is a Microsoft Security Engineer and they noticed some strange files and activity on my computer. They want me to download some software so they can enter my computer and fix it. (Yeah Sure), but they usually hang up when I tell them I am surprised they can do that, since I have Linux.

Thanks for the heads up darkthorn although I haven't seen anything like this in my emails. I have had dodgy looking emails before though and one thing I find with these is the english grammar is often very poor which I always think is a little suspicious. You would think if someone was informing you of something serious they would make sure it was easily understood.

I get a lot of strange eail mostly sex spam and stupid people trying to fool me into thinking I have facebook accounts and amazon accounts. all you have to do is put your mouse over the sender to see the address and if its a odd address don't open it. amazon is going to send you mail from Amazon@drqtyrse ru or something like that

scammers and other who wish to do you harm will stop at nothing and will play on your every fear. They know people are motivated by fear and greed so they will come up with scenarios to get you to act. Do not place 100%trust in everything you see or hear.

LOL. This post made me laugh. I could not agree more. The only ones that are not obvious are the drive-by java attacks or the silent drivebys. Every other hacking attempt is pretty obvious, or at least the need to be cautious is obvious.

Thanks for giving this information. Since my son stays in Dubai, i have informed this matter to him and alerted him . As such my pc is infested with malware and though i used anti malware still it is continuing. yesterday while scaning for viruses, i found 4 trozen horse present and that is the reason for my pc being very slow . Though i quarantined , i am not happy. I want to eliminate it completely and since i dont have much knowledge about pc i am taking the help of the net to solve the issue

I suffered this same problem years ago and decided to use an old PC I had to install Linux on just for getting online. I still use Windows for office type work, but keep it off the Internet unless I know it's safe (like updating my own website). Linux doesn't get malware and if it ever did, I can just wipe it out and reinstall, since I don't have any valuable data on that computer. I have been using this method for several years with no problems.

You mean to say that Linux is safe and it takes care of the malware ? If so i will uninstall Avira and install Linux immediately. Experienced people like you only can guide people like me who do not have even the basic knowledge about desktop and laptop because in our days no pc was there .So i will take the help of the members in this forum or from the net and try to solve my issues.

DON'T UNINSTALL ANYTHING, that is not what I was suggesting.

Linux is a separate operating system from Windows. They can even run as a dual boot system on one computer, but what I did was use a second computer. It doesn't need to be as powerful as the one that runs Windows, so I used a hand me down, or you could purchase a used one for around $30 to $40 here. In fact if you lived closer I have one I would give you that already has Linux installed.

Linux is free and I use PCLinuxOS, because it is closer to Windows than some other distributions.
