These fake accounts are disguising themselves as recruiters. Once they're befriended with their victims especially business professionals, they're have a chance to monitor the connections of their victims. Therefore, they're free to hack the said business networks.

The social media, they intruded, is the LinkedIn which s a business-oriented social networking service. It was founded in December 2002 and launched on May 5, 2003.

Makes me even more happier that I left LinkedIn a few years ago. Not my kind of crowd there anyway.

Can you please give a little more info on that? I'm active on LinkedIn and would like to know of any vulnerabilities we should be aware of when using their site.

I honestly don't like sites like that, I am not a member there, but I do believe a hacker can get into anything. I get a lot of invites to this site and it drives me crazy, so glad I didn't join.

I think any social media account you have is prone to hacking anyway. I do have a Linkedin profile because I find it a good place to keep connected with former employers and colleagues, plus I get invited for interviews on new opportunities. I also noticed some spammy activities around and received a couple of dubious looking messages but just like anything in the Internet, you have to be careful before clicking on that link.

That's very worrying! I do have an account there, although I don't access it regularly or even bother to upgrade it. I agree with cessy_08 that all social media platforms are vulnerable to these types of attacks, anyway, so there's really no place to be a 100% safe. We all just need to ensure we don't leave ourselves open to abuse and try to be as safe as possible at all times.

I have an account there but I go there twice in a year and I don't accept friendship requests. I don't know why I never liked Linkedln and my feelings towards the website got worse when I found out I had to pay to send messages or to check some users profiles.

I have been member there for several years, but I never used it for business connection. What I availed of such facility is to share my latest content of my blog. LinkedIn is more on professionals. Those hackers as mentioned in the news are opportunity grabbers. They befriend with you so that they could have access to your connections, friends, associates and whatever have you.
