We have changed it. At the time of giving the connection, the internet operators gave one username and password . When they left our place we have changed the log in details.

I did change it, but it's still pretty simple to guess if someone really tried. The point is, I live in an area where that is highly unlikely. No I won't give you my address.

Router is responsible for the "traffic direction" to various networks. When it is weak or could be accessed easily meaning those networks connected to it is capable of hacking. Therefore, the password should be very strong. It should be a combination of alphanumeric and a special character for it is hard and difficult to decipher by the hacker.

You are not the only one with that opinion, but I don't like trying to remember passwords complicated enough to keep imaginary hackers at bay. Mine are just hard enough to keep honest people honest and still simple enough I can easily provide them to guest so they can use my wifi with ease.

a good password doesnt always have to be complicated anything or word can be your key and it can be hard to guess if no one thinks along those lines. if you were a startrek fan you could use captainkirk loves spock 434 as your password and i dont think anyone would guess that as easy unless the ssid was startrek related too

That is one of the first things I do. I have worked many years in the technical support of a Portuguese ISP and one of the most common problems we had was precisely this one. By that time my routers from Thomson were not so secure and it was easy to decode the WPA, even when you change it to WPA2 there is always a risk of someone break the code. Tools to crack wi-fi networks are all around the internet and anyone can use them, even those with non technical knowledge, besides someone always find a way to break security systems.

You're the technician, so feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but don't they need to be within a football field away (100 yards) before they can use it? In my case they would need to be in a car sitting in the rain and be easy to notice. If I was a downtown bank it might be possible, but I can't imagine anyone wanting into my personal network that bad.

That is good for you. Ours is very different. They get access to our wifi zone and get in we have an open router. And you know what is the result: our Internet connection becomes weak and it is difficult for us to get a better signal for that matter.
