Blocking spam

Postby darrensurrey » 07 Dec 2015, 10:37

Am getting a lot of spam from 3 email addresses. They're not even making up the email addresses so it's easy to block the address and domain. I don't mind spam but when it's the same message every 2-3 hours, it's ridiculous. So any tips for making it not even come into my spam box? (And don't say redirect it into your inbox. :D )

I'm on Yahoo if that's any use. They don't seem to have a proper spam filter system.

I'm going to list the emails here for bots. :D

Edit: Wow. Received one every 4 minutes for an hour.

In yahoo and gmail, i used to get many spam mails. If i block few, some other spam mails will be seen. So i will select them all and delete. Then i have formed a filters for the spam mails from which i receive mails frequently and now mails from them stopped coming but new mails from a different mail IDs are coming now.

Hmm, that's difficult. Have you subscribed to anything that sends you newsletters? I realized when I subscribed to a website, that's when I started to receive spam emails. I unsubscribed because I lost interest to their products and noticed I did not receive as much spam emails anymore.

I am using gmail as my email facility. All the spammy emails are directed to spam folder. I check them every now and then for there are legit emails that get into that filter. At least, I am not pestered by that spams in my normal email page. I don't take any chances to open those spammy emails, of course, except my known email.

If you use Gmail or forward all your Yahoo mail to a Gmail account, you can filter it to delete it without looking, or label it suspect to make it easy to find.

There are only three things you can do to reduce spam on your mail box:

- block the senders email
- unsubscribe to mailing lists

You can also improve Yahoo Spam Filter by doing the steps mencioned on the page below:

http://smallbusiness.chron.com/make-yah ... 59846.html

If this doesn't change much then like the other members said Gmail has a better spam filter, maybe you should change the email provider.

As I say, it's going into my spam box.

As for newsletters, it's very specific spam, always about investments which leads me to think it was one of the brokers I use(d) being dickheads and selling the data.

In Gmail you would just open the email, click on More and Filter Messages Like These, then in the box for Has The Words enter 'investment' and at the bottom click Create Filter With This Search. On the next page tell it what you want done and Create Filter. You can either label them to find easy or even delete them so you never see it. Oh Did I Mention this is all FREE?

I am using gmail and it is true all those spammy emails are automatically get into the spam folder and they are easy to delete them. If you do not, after 30 days, they automatically are being deleted. How's that?

I report my spam to https://www.spamcop.net and filter them on Gmail. That ruins their IP reputation which, hopefully, will make them get kicked out of their provider or make them think twice before spamming. If they use an SMTP service, I will generally report the email to them too.

Edit: mind you that is only for unsolicited marketing / scam emails.

You must not get as much spam as I do. There is no way I have time to report a few thousand a day.

I used to receive a load (because I forwarded emails from support @holderhost.com, which was posted to a lot of places, to my personal email). Gmail filters do a good job of sectioning off spam and if you report (or unsubscribe from if you signed up) emails your spam volume will start to decrease significantly.

I don't really get a great deal of spam. I have alot of email accounts and all forward to one gmail account. Gmail does a really good job at filtering and really very few make it through to my inbox. I used to have a Yahoo mail account many many many years ago and was hit hard from spam so stopped using it. Alot wasn't filtered out either. I did try and reduce the spam by opting out of emails and setting up filters but it barely made a difference.

As I say(!), it goes to my spam folder. But I don't want it to even go there. Unfortunately, Yahoo doesn't have a filter that deletes them. Received about 20 all about investing.

I have a gmail account but overall gmail is a bit shite for everything else so rarely use it.
