85 out of 161

Postby OldGuy » 31 May 2024, 13:24

Members log in at their own convenience, browse the “New Posts” list to find topics of interest and if they don't find something there, some go back through older content to find something they want to talk about. They post their reply or replies and log off to go back to real life.

Problem is, topics are only displayed for 7 days and then drop off the list. Older topics need to be replaced every day. Many members browse the “New Posts” list and if they don't find anything new, they log off without contributing anything. If you have not noticed, a lot of members are not coming back because they are not finding new topics of interest. The volume of new topics has been dropping like a rock. We used to have well over 300 topics listed under the new posts link. It is currently only 161.

Every member who posts content have these members to thank. Of all the topics currently listed under the new posts link, these members have posted new topics in 2024; nearly half of all currently displayed content. All the rest of the display are topics from past years with a volume of repeated replies.

As you can see, topics come from active members. There is no other source. If you want to post content, you should also be posting new topics. It is part of your site participation. New topics are needed every single day. Log in, post a new topic, reply to those of interest and then go back to real life.

So if you are not listed here, where are your new topics?

Say thank you to these members for providing topics you have been answering.

That is the issue. Most members are doing the same and we are running out of new topics as a result. An astounding number of members log in, don't see anything new and leave without posting anything. (At least a third of all who log in each day.) They too should at least post a new topic while visiting but they have the same attitude. ALL members should consider posting new topics part of their site participation, especially if you want ForumCoin to continue to serve your interests.

Full participation on ForumCoin includes posting content in topics of interest, posting new topics of your own, giving positive reputation points on content that truly adds value to the topic and advertising your own offers.

With the utter lack of new topics as needed, I suppose for now there is an alternative to members posting new topics to expand the choices for replies. It is not as good an option of all new topics, but it is better than the limit of just the latest 7 day listings.

Open the "New Posts" link and go to the bottom of the list. You will see a line that says
Display posts from previous 7 days [Go] by default.

Click on the "7 days" section and choose "3 months", then click on [Go}

That will expand the list of topics displayed all the way back to March, and currently includes

I understand that the percentage of new threads has dropped but if we have about five topics each week that are engaging and go viral then the forum will still be having a lot of members active. The problem is not because there are a few threads posted every day or week but the quality of the flock of members that we have at present. I think that we should know the reason why people are in forums and what will keep them active in here. One thing for sure is that for others I think it is a little hard to navigate through the forum. For others it is quite hard to earn on the forum and for others they rarely find topics that are very engaging for them because most people just post as long as they get some FC.They do not care whether the comment will build a conversation or not. So If we can have even 50 members who are active =and quality people then we will be building a solid team. Glad that the admin has been truthful and trust worthy for the over 11 years. That is record breaking and he has always paid on time. What we need is to build a flock of quality members that will be looking onto benefits that can be found in forums with beginner to zero skills and those who are advanced. It is that simple if we are to sky rocket and go back to the glory days again.

Thanks for your feedback Carson20t, much appreciated.

That's good to know, can you please give a little more info on why navigation is not as easy as it could be?

Fergal

As for me I rely on my email notification if I have new replies to any of the threads that I have engaged on, I may try to pin them in my head but if I have to go to more than one forum to engage then in no time I would have forgotten all the engagement I made on various threads on Forumcoin. So adding the notification icon would make it a little bit easy for people to easily come through and pick up the conversations from where they left of.

There is a niche that is called 'My posts' where everything that we have responded to including our own threads are included. I find it quite convenient I have disabled email notifications as that will only flood my inbox.

This response for example will be included in 'My posts' right on top

This is helpful and would help one come through as often as they can to timely see if they have new responses and have been qouted. Imagine that there is something that you shared and you do need a response because the person who qouted you is a potential lead. Using the method you have shared @Bestwriter would be beneficial.

Now how sure are we that the new members can easily be able to know that? personally i struggled a lot to pick conversations because I have never been of the idea to just post for points. I have always wanted to read through and add something meaningful and new to a conversation. Unlike what I saw in most conversations where it was just like people switching the on/off button. Fergal also has really been kind with our grammatical errors despite a lot of free tools to help auto correct our sentences to basic at least from tools like Grammarly.

Then there is also an indication if one has answered a post and how many times they have done it This is helpful too.

The thread is clear that @Mika has been recognized as one of the people that has been active and proving some fresh content that has kept the masses of the members glued and responding to content here. So yeah that is something to jolly about because it is a recognition of hard work.

Sometimes a reply could be itself a separate thread if it contains a lot of information and there comes the role of moderator of split the participation into a separate thread. Sometimes it could be one paragraph or two. Not most of the time it is just one line.

This is a very useful and informative topic. A couple of things kept me busy in the early part of this year.
Now, you all can expect more new discussions, including a couple of articles from my side.
One thing that has made me a bit (not too much) disheartened is that I put in a lot of effort on some of the articles.
I do not mind people criticizing me for what I wrote.
Or pointing to shortcomings in my writing or even Grammar.
Yet, I wanted comments on at least some of those.
I think may be all of us could share some posts on Twitter/Facebook or other social media we are active on.
If even 10 to 15 of us make those efforts even once or twice a month, it would make a difference.
Or at least increase the scoreboard somewhere!

I must admit, I didn't make the list because I'm rarely here and seldom have the time to put something together. I have however, decided to log in on Saturday and Sunday, at the very least- come what may. And now that I've seen this post, I'll make more of an effort to regularly share something on at least one of those two days :)
