A "Reviews" Section

Postby Spontaneo » 19 Feb 2025, 01:21

As @OldGuy is asking about a sports section, I am would like to know how you feel about a "reviews" section. For example, reviews about music, products, clothes, shoes, websites, food, etc.?

What do you think @Fergal and @OldGuy?

Adding a new forum section involves a lot of work. It also involves an expression of interest from several members to even consider such an addition.

In the case of the idea of a sports forum section, a member made the proposal and about a dozen members expressed an interest. I then took the time to research existing topics to see if it was even feasible. That part alone took nearly 70 hours of site review with related keyword searches and resulted in a list of just over 200 existing topics related to sports or other physical activity such as exercise.

The next step, which has not yet happened is that those who expressed an interest need to produce a significant volume of new topics and respond to enough of the older topics to prove their interest before Fergal can then take the time to create the space for a special added forum. It takes hours to move the identified list of related topics to the new forum section. It is not an instant project but takes many hours of dedicated work to get everything established. Members have to actually prove interest before the work can take place.

The first step is to see how many respond to this suggestion to see who might even be interested in the idea.

The second step is to do the research to locate a list of existing topics that might fit such a new section. Are you up to taking a turn at that research?

The third step is for members with an interest to create related new topics and to answer enough existing topics to prove the interest.

If enough members follow through with all of that, then fergal may consider the idea. He will then have several hours of work involved to make it happen. Members have to prove the interest before he would even consider all that extra work.

Its up to the members to get the ball rolling. Who is interested?

I have agreed with @OldGuy that I would do the research. However, I do not want to do the research with no interest from you.

So, what is your final answer? ;) ;)

Great! Start writing new topics reviewing something ... anything ... to get the ball rolling. Spend some time looking for existing topics reviewing whatever. Show some steady interest in the idea by being active about it.

There are several related keywords that will bring up a lot more than "reviews". These are all synonyms that can bring up several other review type topics. These are the keywords I would use to search the site for a list to start such a section. Check them out for yourself.

similar meaning Keywords like:
analysis evaluation assessment appraisal examination investigation scrutiny inquiry
exploration probe inspection study audit review reviews reviewing

Each of those lines are 8 keywords, which is the maximum the FC Search system can work with. Use the search engine to enter one line. Look below and make sure you click on "search for any word". There are no matches if you leave it on the default to search for a topic that includes all words.

As you look down the list of results, ignore those that start with "re:" those are the posted replies, not the original topic. Of course there will also be a number of topics that won't fit this idea at all but the keywords will bring up everything that uses any of those words. Dig in, show your interest by posting new topics and answering topics that already exist. Encourage others to do the same. If there is enough demonstrated interest, you just might get Fergal to pay attention.
