Newbies for the love of God read the Guidelines

Postby Netherrealmer » 19 Sep 2019, 19:07

I tried saving some newbies from getting banned by telling them to change their ways and stop doing violations but they don't bother listening. I gave my best to save them but they cant stop of doing creative ways of getting their accounts banned. I am once a Newbie and I even have threads deleted due to violations as we are all human. But doing it rampantly and carelessly despite of warnings to save their behinds means they are hopeless. I tried saving them but they are a lost cause already.

I hope more members will try to warn them so we can save "lives"

Well, some people get caught on the wrong side for lack of guidance. Or lack of knowledge.
Yet there are some, who do get support, guidance as well as knowledge.
Yet they end up being on the wrong side. You did quite well, but then you could have just guided them, and not have them do something forcefully.

There are members, new and old who make mistakes. There are some who make an effort to produce quality content, and there are others who just want to make a penny a post no matter what they toss in the pot. Some of those have been around long enough they certainly should know better by now. Newbies learn as they go. Some just need a little guidance, some need a swift kick in the seat of their pants.

The only thing members can do to help each other is to review the content, and if it provides quality information, give it a positive reputation point. If the post is low quality, you can give it a negative reputation point. Although the reputation points are not a direct indicator of quality, they do create a collective opinion from the ForumCoin community of the quality contributed by each member.

Anyone can see their own reputation score just by dividing their total number of reputation points by their total number of posts, and reading the results as a percentage. It is valuable as a guide despite a lack of accuracy. Anything lower than 10% is effectively a message from the community telling you that you need to do better. If you get a negative reputation point, it is like someone is screaming that you need to do better.

It is not a good idea for one member to contact another to tell them anything about their site activity. First, members don't have the authority to do so, and second, you come across as a meddling troll, and third, you don't have the power to do anything about it except whine.

There is a "catch" to giving out negative reputation points. First, they come with a financial penalty of at least 1 FC. It could be more depending on any site rule violation. Second, when one member gives another member a negative reputation point, it can create hard feelings between members. Third, there have been times negative points come back to you in revenge.

All things considered, if you see something wrong with the content you read, it is much better to use the report icon -- that exclamation point in a triangle in the upper right hand corner of each post. All that does is open a report page, where you can let the administration know of some issue. They can then take a look and take whatever action is deemed necessary; whether just ignoring you as a crank, giving them a negative point, giving them a written warning or even banning them if necessary.

All active members see the content as they browse the site. Each member is like an extra pair of eyes, and using that report really does help spot small problems before they become huge issues.

The moderators and administration also review content all the time. They are likely to spot a problem eventually. Reports just bring problems to the attention of staff more quickly so action can be taken as needed.

PLEASE -- give out positive reputation points when deserved and either make a report or give them a negative point when deserved. NOTHING MORE.

I prefer telling members through PM to mend their ways or face the music. I have no authority for warning members doing one liner or irreverent posting to reach their quota of 10.
I have seen some members doing their quota of 10 within 5-6 minutes and disappear. In my views it's hard to find 10 threads to post my comment in entire day so I end up doing 4-5 on most days.
I think the moderators should be more strict and keep a strict vigil on such members new or old makes no difference.

Once upon a time I was a newbie.

Once upon a time I remember when you were a newbie.

I have never been told that I would be banned.

Nobody had to warn me not to be "naughty".

I don't know, but I doubt that you have been advised to discontinue certain activity or you would be banned.

What makes you and me different from any other newbie?
If we can do it, they can do it.

I don't see any reason to babysit or hold someone's hand until they learn how to walk.
What? Are we raising children here?

Not trying to be a meanie. Just sayin'. I raised all my kids. I ain't raising nobody's else kids. :D

Yes I noticed some new memebers just came in here spamming like crazy. It was not a good thing at all.
I do not know why they even did that. But that is hot things went down.
It's sad but I saw a few people get banned for that. It's better to take it easy and only make a
topic when you really need to. I hardly make topics mostly replies.
But when I do it's something I feel is important.

I wouldn't feel comfortable telling people they were doing something wrong unless it was advising them not to post links in the wrong section because they could lose coins doing that. I would tell them by private message though. When you first join a forum and there is a lot to take in it's easy to miss someting like that.
