Please, if you will quote, Trim it to the statement you want to quote and leave an actual message

Postby Netherrealmer » 12 Dec 2020, 12:47

I had seen two trends that gets on the nerves of members. People who quotes very long threads and not trim it. As in they will quote the whole thread or article with pictures and all. There is no rule against it but please be considerate to data internet user members. Trim the statement you quoted.

Also after quoting, leave a message. There is now a trend of people who quotes but doesn't leave a message.

I think some users don't understand how quotes work and they add their text into quotes. Do we have instructions how to use quote on forum to post link?

Yeah some people are just becoming tech and its a gradual process so a little bitorientation and guide would do a bit of good to enhance the catch up to how they can make their staements or our statements be making alot of sense.

Probably, some use their phones so they lazily quote all the long messages then leave a message.

I generally quote someone's comment when I have to add/comment/question it. I a, surprised that why would anyone just quote and leave it without any contribution of their own.
But it is a good suggestion that we should trim and post only the relevant part. I would keep that in mind. Actually would be good for readers too. Easier to read short but relevant posts.

I think there should be an instruction on how people should be able to use the quote

Right about this, I just joined this forum and it took me a little while to understand how to quote or even trim a quote

I've been guilty of this myself at some time or other mainly through laziness. It's just so much easier to press quote than mess about trimming it. We do get stopped if we try to quote more than 2 or 3 times but I suppose if a post is long it's annoying to have to find the bit that is being referred to.

On behalf of those people who post long threads," We are so sorry".
I never knew it was annoying, I used to do it for reference purposes but I later stopped after I found out I was being a nuisance.

Long threads are great and highly recommended, quoting them as a whole is not.
