Before You bump an old topic

Postby Netherrealmer » 31 May 2020, 13:54

1. Please reply on an unanswered/new post first so you will not end up burying a new post. Many new posts didn't have a chance to live the day because someone decided to reply on 20 old threads in a row which buries them on page 4. I want to encourage people to make new threads but they get discouraged when their post gets to page 2 just few seconds after they made a post. People became afraid to make new topics because their post gets buried by people who likes bumping old posts.

2. Is this thread dated? There are 2 types of old threads, a timeless one and a dated one. A timeless one never gets old while a dated one is dated. No one should bump a post about Computer virus attack from 2014 or an online earning site that closed down in 2016.

You should not bump a thread about an online earning site that already closed down. So yeah before bumping a thread from decade ago, ask yourself, Is this still relevant? Also why bump if you can make your own version of that topic that is more relevant the current times.

3. You must make sure you add something new to the topic. Many bumped old threads are just people running around the bushes because their comments contributes nothing. Also read the discussion so your reply won't be a repeat of a previous one. I notice some people who say the same comment on the same post over and over again.

4.Forumcoin have other areas. Do not imprison yourself on one area. We have multiple diverse subforums here.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, we make similar mistakes many times. Will check older posts before creating a new ones from now on.

Check the relevance always on priority to avoid dated posts.

Very relevant points. I do check on unanswered posts section frequently. Perhaps I might be one of the most active response giver on topics that have been unanswered.
Also, it is better to have a relevant response to a topic. If one cannot think of a good response to something, then that topic ought to be skipped, rather than giving an irrelevant response.

As much as possible I encourage making new posts and replying on post created within this year better but I understand why many people are making bumping spree.

You have said something very profound, it is true i myself have bumped on quite a number of old threads but i always tend to look at the date it was posted so i will normally go for those that are more recent because am sure i may have answered the old threads somehow.

I don't go on a bumping spree. It's just that some days, I can't find anything in the new posts so I start going through Unanswered posts and I end up at old posts. I can usually do 10 posts when I sign in. But every once in a while I have to look for threads in order to make 10 posts per day. I get bored visiting the same old posts. Plus some of those Unanswered posts are articles that got overlooked. As an article writer here, I try to support the other article writers. They took the time to write 500 words. The least I can do is read it. If I can comment, I will. I will at least give them a reputation point.

Locking the Mylot thread and the Beer money forum thread seemed like a great decision for me since there are now more 2020 threads in the first page.

That's too bad, we should watch closely before making such mistakes repeatedly. For me I will stop the act and read more carefully as stated in my name, which is being sincere.

Sure, I'll do exactly as you said, before an article is bumped, or buried here, thanks for sharing this instructional message.

Now that we have a clear idea what we have responded to - thanks to my suggestion  - I can easily find out what post I have not responded to and this is one of them.

4. Yes, lately I've been discovering the ForumCoin Related Discussions. :D

It's frustrating when threads have many posts, it's very easy to repeat what other people said, even involuntarily. What is even more frustrating is when some users don't read the latest replies of a thread. I get that feeling sometimes.

Sometimes I happen to bump old threads because I always check if someone has already posted about the topic or site I wanted to talk about, with the search feature.
I don't remember if I've ever started a thread of my own here.

Those are relevant points. We need to encourage more and more people to make new posts. I always try to read and reply to the threads that are unanswered or barely answered. Appreciate the new feature here where we can read our previous replies and do not repeat them.
