Rules, folders & settings

Postby Lushh » 25 Apr 2022, 21:55

Hi all,

This is about my message folder. I was trying to set up another folder so that when my current one is full new messages will go there. I somehow added a folder which I named More but the thing is I'm not sure what will happen based on the settings I selected. Here is a screenshot of what I did. Is it correct? It looks odd. I don't want my messages to delete by themselves and I don't want new messages to get lost or barred. Thank you.

The ForumCoin Personal Message system includes several folders and actions by default. Most will never have to do anything with them for normal exchanges, but there are options available if needed.

First, say you develop a particular interest in a topic or with a particular member where you anticipate a lot of exchanges. You can add a new folder for that exclusive exchange where all incoming messages go there instead of the general inbox. You can name it anything you want.

Under settings, the top section is where you establish the rules of what is to go in that special new folder. Just follow the instructions to include what keyword or what user name will direct incoming messages to the new folder.

On the other hand, say your inbox is getting full or close to full. By default, the system simply deletes the oldest messages, one by one as they are replaced with new content. It is likely the oldest messages are so old you don't even remember what they were about so it usually does not matter.

However, if you have a hoarder mentality and for some reason don't want to lose the old content, you can set up a new folder to catch the new incoming messages.

Again, set up the new folder, but don't bother with the rules section. Go down to the option that directs the system what to do when the inbox or any other folder is full. Again by default, it says to just delete the old content. Switch that to the option to move the overflow to another folder. Change where it says to move overflow to the inbox to select your new folder. Don't forget to click on the change button to save your selections.

Once your inbox or any other is full (50 of 50 messages), new messages will end up in your new folder while the old folders will remain untouched. If you ever get to 100 messages, you will have to delete the old stuff that goes way beyond your memory anyway.

Thanks OldGuy, I just want to be the one to decide which messages to delete. I'd rather save some of the older ones and delete the newer ones. I don't want to keep all messages but I don't want some to auto delete. I'll see how this works. Thanks.

I have never considered this but it was good to learn in case I like to keep my messages for a longer duration and don't like these to be deleted automatically
