It is sad that some topics persist long after the reason the topic existed.
Over time, there had been a significant drop in site activity that was visible if you actually watched the numbers. There had been a time in the past when there were an average of 65 to 70 members logging in each day, an average volume of 250 posts per day and there was an average of 300 or more topics displayed under the new posts link. Those numbers had been falling for months when the original poster contributed this topic and referred to a topic I had posted about the falling numbers.
The reason for my original topic was that we had gotten down to an average of 30 to 35 members logging in each day, there was a volume of just over 100 posts per day and we had gotten all the way down to barely 150 topics posted under the New Posts link. I posted my topic to encourage members to post new topics to provide more places for all members to post content. Barely 60% of those who were logging in were even posting anything during their visits. The rest were either just browsing or did not find anything that encouraged them to contribute any content.
There was a slow and steady improvement by summer and all numbers were going up. Fergal posted the new long term contest in August and all numbers have now substantially improved. When he first posted that new contest, I suggested that we should pass that 1 million post milestone sometime in early 2025 BASED ON THE RECENT SITE ACTIVITY
AT THAT TIME. Things have changed for the better since then.
I have continued to post the status of posts remaining from time to time in that contest, and the predicted date that we should reach one million posts continues to come at an earlier date and is still changing due to the increased site activity. As of this moment:
80430 posts to go.
11/27/23 current prediction to reach
1 MILLION POSTS
It has already advanced by nearly a year and a half BASED ON CURRENT POSTING VOLUME.
As of today, the average volume of daily posts is above 200. There have been many recent days with well above 55 members logging in. There are currently well over 300 topics listed under the new posts link.
The crisis that initiated this topic no longer exists. This topic is outdated because it no longer applies. There is no longer any valid reason to keep this topic open. The issue being discussed no longer exists.
The biggest issue now is that reputation scores have been falling for a majority of members. Please pay attention to quality in your content. If you see content that adds value to the topic please consider those positive rep points. It makes a difference. If you see a post that is junk content, either use the report button to let the site administrators take a look or consider a negative rep point when deserved.
