Re: ForumCoin Needs New Topics

It is not so much that FC "requires" new topics as it is the members who continuously need new topics to be able to carry on with anything close to meaningful conversations.

If it were up to me, I would completely eliminate the entire games category from the site. There is no value added content there and all it does is fill up the site with far lower value than even junk content. There are a few members who log into the game section, post something useless in a half dozen or more games all at once and push topics of any value off the first page of the new posts link. They don't even earn a half FC for game entries yet their volume disrupts the activity of all other members. If you look closely at the games section, surprisingly few members even bother with them and most who do have very low reputation scores.

However, even Fergal and Cyberfreak enter content in the games from time to time. They seem to like them and it is their site. Members who participate here have nothing to say about them. I guess we are stuck with them.

The contests only seem to attract the attention of maybe 20% of all participating members and the same few are winning the majority of all offered prizes even though those same few are hardly contributing anything of value to the site. There are maybe a dozen members entering the contests that also participate on the rest of the site and 3 or 4 who enter a high volume of entries in the contests with little of anything else anywhere on the site. 1 member generally contributes 50% or more of all entries to every contest without contributing much of anything of value to the rest of the site and even has one of the lowest reputation scores of all active members. That same member seems to be winning a majority of all contest awards. I can't post what I think of that guy.

Even the contests I have been offering seem to entice very few to participate. The majority of members just don't really seem to care about anything but plastering in brief posts for a half FC rather than look at the overall potential earnings by looking at other features of the site. I'm just offering those added enticements to try my best to improve the site as I find a place to spend my FC collection. After all, 62.59% of all members have reputation scores well below even the site average, and the average score has now fallen to just 7.9299%. A continuous slide downward with every day's statistical entries.

My push for new topics is not because the site requires them. It is because I have been monitoring all site activity for several years and I see the huge drops in site activity that appears to be a result of very few new topics to write about, I even spotted a posted complaint from one member who no longer seems to be active: "I just think that the topics are just recycled for months. There are no new topics like on RIF." as a reason to leave. I have similar complaints. My posts are few and far between as a result of so few new topics. With the dwindling number of members logging in and posting content, I don't think I am alone.

We need a steady supply of new topics FOR ALL MEMBERS
and they have to come from participating members.

I'm sure there is. However, the way you have been kind of ranting at everyone here, even using increasingly larger text and patronising language, is rude. People who participate on this forum have lives, stuff to do. They don't have to contribute new topics if they don't feel like it, and I doubt carrying on like that is going to motivate anyone.

I don't mean being encouraging, I mean this sort of thing:
"What is it going to take to get you to understand
that every posted topic
has to come from participating members?

What is it going to take to get you to understand that
this includes you?

What is it going to take to get you to understand that
we all need new topics every day..."

It's the phrasing. You're not our boss or our dad.

I am not being rude at all. I am simply doing what I can to continue to urge members to do their part by making adding new topics to the site part of their site participation.

If you have time to post content to existing topics, you have time to post new topics. Simple as that.
It is an urgent and ongoing issue.

I personally find it rude. You can do what you like, just thought maybe you should be aware of how it might be coming across.
Posting new topics does take longer than responding to existing topics. Obviously responding to existing topics is easier. Nobody has to create new topics if they're busy or just don't feel like it. They don't actually owe that to anyone. It's better for the forum if people do, but you act like it's a moral duty or something. It's not. Honestly, the way you carry on makes me feel LESS motivated to contribute new topics.
