After having studied the reputation point program on ForumCoin for the past several months, I have to disagree on this premise.
The reputation points are only an opinion of other members. Although higher quality content tends to have more reputation points, there have been many high quality posts that never got the recognition they deserved and there have been many low quality posts that received a positive reputation point with out merit. By themselves, reputation points do not provide a true picture of quality.
Over time, most members do gain positive reputation points for their higher quality posts, but that is not the entire picture. Someone who has only provided 100 posts but has collected 10 reputation posts appears to be providing higher quality content than someone who has provided 1000 posts and still only has 10 reputation points.
A reputation "score" can be seen quite quickly by dividing the total number of reputation points by the total number of posts and reading the results as a percentage. The overall average for all members for the life of ForumCoin is just under 10%. The reputation scores for those who have posted content in the last 30 days average almost a full percentage point higher. If your percentage is lower than 10%, the rest of the community is telling you that you need to do better, at least in their collective opinion. Any negative reputation point is more like screaming that you need to do better.
At the very least, you need to consider that volume of posts before making a determination of content deserving a higher pay grade, and even then, there needs to be some consideration of the content quality itself, which this site currently does not consider.
There needs to be more than just reputation points involved for any consideration of any higher pay scale, and there needs to be some form of successful advertising to fund any pay raise before it can be considered. For now, be glad that Fergal seems to have deep pockets and is very generous, since he is paying everyone at a loss.
You would have better success at getting a raise if you personally come up with some form of added revenue to provide the funds needed to cover that increased expense.
