Reputation

Postby Masterminor » 14 Nov 2023, 05:22

Throughout my years of being a member of ForumCoin, I have made many posts and received a lot of reputation points. Of all the reputation I have recieved, 2 were negative. One from a member who hasn't logged in since 2021. And another who was banned. They both had no or very poor reasons for their reputation vote. One was on a question when I was still a minor I had about verifying my paypal and struggling to do so at the time with being told to "just use unverified then" Which I still find condescending because I was just a kid who wanted to earn money with a parent who didn't want to let me. This same person who left that comment on my negative rep is the one who was banned.

The other person gave no reason and hasn't logged in in years. My reputation is overwhelmingly positive, points-wise. But those 2 negative points mock me every time I log in. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, sure. I wouldn't be upset about it if they were earned negative rep, but from what I see, my reputation forever has negative points because of some internet trolls and it discourages me whenever I log in. I think honestly that any rep given from a member who ends up banned should be able to be removed automatically, And that perhaps a comment should be required to give negative rep, and strictly enforced that bs comments are penalized to prevent negative repping someone.

I also ask our FC Gods (Fergal and Cyber) Or any staff really if it is within the power, to remove the negative rep points because I just hate looking at them. It was undeserved and it honestly ruffles my feathers as a black mark on my reputation here,

Thanks for your feedback Masterminor.

Honestly I don't think you should look at it negatively Masterminor, you have a positive reputation of 206 which is really great. Everyone who participates on the community for a long time and makes lots of posts, will inevitably make some posts that other members don't like and receive negative reputation as a result. Both myself and CyberFreak have received negative reputation and it doesn't really matter, because like you, we have received much more positive rep points than negative rep points.

All a negative rep point means is that the person giving it did not like your post.

It does indeed happen to a lot of us. I have the same situation. A few negative rep points given by a member who was getting revenge for my giving a negative rep point for some of her garbage content. She randomly went through and hit several of my posts with negative rep points. Fergal did review my case and deleted several of her obvious revenge negative points but left a few in place that have always irritated me. That member was also eventually banned but there sits the bruised image without being able to clear my rep of even those.

That is a very good reason to always use the image of the "!" in a triangle at the upper right corner of every post to report content that needs an administrator to take a look, and have THEM issue the negative rep point if justified.

(Masterminor: By the way, your current rep score is in the top 20 earned rep scores for all members for the life of ForumCoin.)

I think it boils down to the proverbial Glass Half Full or Half Empty.
Just compare to our everyday lives.
At times, we can be honest (or brutally honest), sincere, folks who do not try to hurt anyone, be good and even generous.
Yet there are a few folks in our lives who are either out to tarnish our image, downplay us, try to mock us.
Some try to make fun of our physical appearance.
Some try to mock our Financial condition, health and what not.

Yes, all these things disturb.
Yet what I have now found that sometimes all such incidents, whether online or offline are for our greater good. They make us mentally stronger if we want to.
Now such incidents happen to me, but make me feel mentally stronger.
Plus they make me feel as if I the other person has some inferiority complex, some hidden fear, some bad malice so why should I feel bad.

So just take things in your stride and enjoy the site.
The bigger positives would surely make your very few negatives stand just like a few specks of dust!

Also from what I can make out, you are unbiased but straight forward, a bit strict and frank.
And in today's world; at least from the part of the world I come from, people often do not like honest answers !!

I know it can be frustrating and disturbing to receive negative reputation points but it is part of it and we can just move on. I have already received negative points, don't ask me how many because I didn't count them, If I am not wrong I got 2 or 3
We can't please everyone and we always feel that those points are unfair but it is their opinion, if we have a message explaining why we can understand the other point of view and reply but that does not always happen.

Oh, I feel you.
Well, I didn't even know that the Reputation number was clickable and that we could see anyone's history of received reputation points.
Until now.
But yes, it ain't fun to look at tools being abused. At least the petty commentary or totally lack of speaks for itself.

You got 5.
I think of them as "battle scars", they're pretty cool. It means you're active, or even popular. 8-)
As long as the vast majority of rep points are positive, of course.

I guess it'd help to have such a little text suggestion appearing whenever someone attempts to give a thumbs down.
I don't recall giving negative rep but if I ever did I probably thought it held about the same strength as a proper report button.
