“The benefits of reading and listening to poetry”
As Fergal has asked we members to use some personal experience in our articles, bare with myself as my personal experience is not easy for myself.
I am not a poet.
However, I went through some very difficult days in my life. Ginsberg and Kerouac helped get myself through those difficult days. There were days when I thought that being a Beatnik would be so calming.
I really do not want to discuss all of the details. There were just alot of toxic people in my life.
Below are some of the ways that poetry can help, whether listening to poetry or reading poetry.
1. Express ourselves
2. Get us away from hate and violence
3. Let out difficult emotions
Personal experience? I was treated so badly that I could not even cry.
4. Cope with loneliness
Personal experience? I was far away from family and friends.
5. Can bring joy to your day
Personal experience? I could not wait for the next shipment of Ginsberg and Kerouac to arrive.
6. Poetry is calming
7. Helps with chronic mental and physical pain
Personal experience? My high school/university sweetheart cheated on myself.
8. Promotes better rest
9. Stress reduction
So, are you wondering where I was?
My high school/university sweetheart said that I was too far away. So, I moved 3 hours away from home. I found out that he had been cheating. I broke up with him.
People started to show their true colors. For example, toxic people forced myself to consume large amounts of food. People would talk about how successful they were, such as their new jobs, new cars, new houses, etc., while I was struggling on bad so-called medicine. I could barely function.
But those days are over.
I have since re-located and pray to the blessed Virgin Mary to intercede.
I am single and wish that my parents would have had myself arranged but one day I shall find a gentleman that loves myself and my loved ones.
I know at the beginning of this article that I said that I would not go into any details, but I guess that I needed to get it all out. The whole article is personal detail.
I just might borrow some Ginsberg and Kerouac from my local library or might buy a few of my own copies to be there on a bad day. Why not study the two on YouTube?
