Ber fruit also known by the names Ziiphus mauritiana, Indian Jujube and Chinese date is a humble fruit not known to many.
The Ber Fruit tree is medium sized and can live for many years. The yield is between the months Decembder to March. The adult tree needs no maintenance and can only live on water that it gets during the monsoon season
This tiny fruit is a favourite of children Women, with a basket filled with the Ber Fruit are often seen sitting near the gates of schools where children flock to buy them.
Very Little was so far known to the public about the goodness of this fruit that surpasses the so called fruit of the rich – apples, almonds the works.

Thanks to the Internet and particularly AI they are singing the praises of this humble fruit They call it a super food loaded with many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The Vitamin C content boosts one’s immunity and to top it all it is tasty – more sweet and less sour. .

Then there are those who should not consume the fruit and among them are the diabetics. The Ber fruit has the ability to lower one’s blood sugar and diabetics who are mostly on medication will experience their sugar level going down if they consume this fruit and that needs caution. Ber fruit is not the only fruit that is waiting for attention and recognition -there are scores of them. But the false belief that what one eats establishes their position in society just like the type of clothes they wear, their address and the jobs they do and this has to change.
Not only are these foods loaded with nutrition they are cheap as well. It is time these foods are produced in abundance so that they can cater to whoever would want to have them on their dining table

Looks a lot like indigenous tomatoes.

Here, Ber fruit is more famous during some religious celebration.
I see some shops selling its juice but yes, it could do with some more promotion.

With the increasing cases of online scams, I would be hesitant to purchase Ber fruit, just from any merchant.
