Old age is not a disease. It is a preconceived notion that the moment one retires life comes to a standstill. The enlightened senior can see on the horizon a great future. All what one needs to do is plan one's retired life giving particular importance to one's financial stability, and on thoughts about how to spend one's time usefully and in a relaxed manner. Sky is the limit in fact for seniors to keep them happily occupied. This planning should start when they are in their forties and certainly not when one is already retired and then wonders how to go about spending time.
The prime years of one's life are always spent on a tightrope with hardly any time sometimes to even breathe.
Real living begins in fact after one retires. Today's seniors are the fortunate lot in that sitting in the confines of their home they can log on to online activity where they will find endless opportunities to give vent to their originality.
This is the time to work on a schedule that helps one maintain good health which includes exercise, good food and regular checkups.
This is the time to look at hobbies that could be revived. One could also fulfil their desire to further their education in any discipline which they could not do earlier due to circumstances beyond their control. There cannot be a better way to have relaxing moments spending quality time with friends and family.
I have put my thoughts in the form of a poem composed by me.
When retirement age draws near,
There lurks an unknown fear,
Of being a nobody…….
Once a somebody!!
How faulty this thinking is,
When life gets a fresh lease,
To do what one really wants,
With none to boss with shouts and taunts.
Doing things at a tarried pace,
No more to rush or race,
Stopping by to smell the flowers,
Sitting by the sea for hours.
Relaxing in ones favourite chair,
With no tension, not a care,
Doing what one wants to do,
With hobbies revived and interests too.
Plenty of time to cheer the weary,
Share it with the sad and dreary,
The world needs these mature minds,
Among them are some rare finds.
Cheer up all you, about to retire,
The world as you think is not on fire,
Move forward with a healthy mind,
And happiness, you are sure to find.
