Dealing with Extreme Frugal Lifestyle

Postby skysnap » 06 Dec 2016, 06:40

When you have income issues, then you are forced to fight in the frugal lifestyle. This way many of us struggle trying to find balance of life and the money. There are many ways the frugal lifestyle end up taking over our life. And here are some ways to deal with each of those scenarios.

1. Deprivation

Frugal lifestyle can lead to deprivation of some of the needs. And here the point is those are needs and not wants. You may end up making some choices which makes you have regret for some of the things in the life. For example, your frugal savings could lead to you not travelling to the nearby destinations or spending money exploring the surroundings. It all depends on how you are spending the money decides your deprivation.

2. Comparison

Some of the time in our life, we have comparison issues. For example, when we compare our life with others, there are chances that we end up making wrong choices. It can also lead to we spending the money in wrong places. So comparison has to be done fairly. Otherwise our effort to deal with frugality leads to losing the focus on the life. We end making choices that we can't help but regret. So that's where we avoid doing the comparison.

3. Parenting

Most of the people adopting the frugal lifestyle late in their lifestyle affects the parenting. So they need to mind how they are handling the frugal lifestyle. Because deprivation during parenting leads to kids not respecting parents. And they don't understand how and why parents are dealing with this at first place. Most likely the extreme frugal lifestyle, leads to bad parenting choices. And you end up not being happy later in the life. That's where you need to keep an eye.

4. Social Life

Extreme frugal lifestyle does affect the social life too. You may find that you don't suit among the people who are more strong financially than you. And some of the time people within your financial circle too may not enjoy your company. So your focus on trying to be extreme frugal leads to more complications. This lack of social connections and other social deprivation leads to issues in your personal life. This is something you have to watch out for later in life.

5. Old Age

If the frugal lifestyle goes extreme, then you may come across old age that has nothing but the habits formed from deprivation. You may only spend the money on the medicine. And there are other things that you may not do or life. This habit then develops further and affect your old age thinking too. You have to understand how the deprivation needs to be controlled earlier in your life. Because too much frugal can affect upto the point of regret.

So it all comes down to how you are handling the frugal lifestyle. If you are not going through much of rout towards deprivation, then you are safe. You just have to watch the balance of being frugal and living life. That's how the extreme lifestyle can be controlled.

When my children were little I really struggled with money but it taught me how to be careful and manage my money well. Now that I don't have to worry so much I find myself still being careful. It becomes a habit but not a bad one to have.

Agree. If the saving is to save the foundation, then being extreme frugal helps. But if savings are done beyond frugal habit then it does affect to overall lifestyle I guess.

Anything can be "bad" when it's taken to the extreme. There is a difference between being smart and careful with money and being an extreme cheapskate. Frugality doesn't have to mean deprivation.
