I was asked in an interview before about what can I say about my resume. I was shocked and didn’t know what to do. The question was after I introduced myself. I was lost because I thought I just answered the question but then the HR Personnel was asking me the same question again. Then she repeated the question by telling me this “Walk me through your Resume”.
My mind was asking why I don’t have a choice but to answer the question from what I remember written in my resume. Lesson learned because I found out that it is not what she is trying to ask me. I never thought that she is giving me the spotlight to the highlights of my resume.
Select from your Resume Something that will give you the Advantage for the Position
Again, I thought I need to repeat my name, my position and job experiences. The right way is to know the key strength or qualification of the job I am applying too and find out if it connects to my job experience from my past company. I need to pick my key strength that correlates to the qualification they are looking for. HR Managers is more interested to know if you are qualified and this is what we call the as soon as possible answer. You need to create a proper response to it highlighting your key strength. They want your answer to be brief and specific. They don’t want the name of your company, location and how long have you stayed there. What they need to know are your job responsibilities that are similar to their job functions. The answer will make or break you.
Highlight How Valuable You Are
In the simplest way to answer this one, tell your future employer how valuable you are. In your previous job, them that what changes you do that helps the company to grow and successful. It is also the time to share if you received a recognition or award at work that added for you to be an excellent candidate.
Your Information Should be True and Correct
From time to time, the HR Manager will ask about the name of the company. Since you are not focusing on those data, you should answer those specifics with all honesty. They have the ways to check your facts by calling your previous company. Before the interview, or a day before it, make sure you double check your resume. The information like complete Company Name, position, telephone number, address, and the date you left the company should be all check. You need to read your resume before the interview so that you can remember what you will highlight on your future employer even if you know it by heart.
