4 Tips on Avoiding Distraction from Working at Home

Postby grecy0905 » 21 May 2017, 12:38

On our new generation at present, there are lots of people working online. They prefer working online for lesser stress and hassle. However, it is not true. Even if you are working at home, there are still lots of distraction that ruin your focus. It could be the bark of your dog, the noise brought by your kids, the sound of radio and television, and even the sound from your neighbor. If you want a quiet time, you need to separate yourself inside a room or you need to work during the night, onwards. You can talk to the people around you yet because you are at home, they might think you can always be bothered and talk with. What are the things that can able to help you solve this issue? Find below tips that will surely help you.

Talk to Everyone at Your Home
When you are at home, consider people talking to you and asking your help in some areas. You can even cook food while working, or iron clothes while working, but multitasking doesn’t seem to help you to have your focus. Remember, the online job is still a job. Even if you are in some areas in the world or inside your home, you still need to do your job like a pro. You need to talk to the people around you about the time you start working and even the time you will end it. You can talk to them nicely that you don’t want to be distracted. If they are reminded for sure they will understand not bothering you on the time you had given and then you will get your focus on working.

Closing the Door of Your Room
If you close your door, it brings out a signal that you want privacy. Instead of people entering your room when the door is open, they will knock first before entering and you have the preparation to talk to them and stop what you are doing. If you want, you can put some a note on your door that you are busy so instead of knocking on your door, people at your house will adjust to your schedule.

Do not give Mixed Signal
Once you start working, you need to be true in focusing on your work. If you said you will go to work now and be busy, execute it and not that they will see you laughing at the video you are watching or talking with someone on the phone. Sometimes you are even inviting your family members to watch it with you and then you will lose your focus. If you are working, work and finish your work.

Use Headphones
If you are using Headphones, it blocks other noise in the house. It also gives a sign to other people that you are focusing on your work and you don’t want an interruption. Much better if you have a noise-canceling headphones, the better quality one to block the noise because the only noise you will be hearing are from the work you are doing.

Everyone needs to finish the job that they started. If you are working from home, having a distraction or interruption is the biggest challenge. Learn to adjust from it and try above tips to survive it.

Distractions are almost inevitable; especially if you have a lot on your plate, a big family, a lot of friends or live in a bustling big city with noise all around. Sometimes we try to be everything for everyone. We always say yes. Focusing on others means less time to focus on yourself. Saying no to people can be difficult but there are times when that is necessary so that we can maintain our focus and be productive while working from home.

I really hope one has an understanding family members. By explaining to them that you are earning for a living and this is all for them, they will surely understand and give you your privacy. It is quite difficult but there will be times that you can adjust to this one.

To be honest, I bought a noise cancelling headset at CDR King but it does not cancelled the noise. You can buy those on Sony and Bose. The best one is with Bose but it not cheap. It is very expensive  .

Those headphones are a must! The earbud ones are also good for blocking out sounds if you aren't able to get the noise-cancelling kind (although the noise cancelling ones do the best job).

Yes, earbuds are good too. I am using it now. It cancels some noise but not all, I can still able to hear some of the sound. I need to put the volume of the noise loud to cancel the noise but it will not be good for my ears, but it is really helping.

Luckily for me, there's just me and my husband, who's also usually working. So we don't really have any other people to consider. Well, unless some family member or friend drops in on us without prior warning. I'm just glad that some of our friends who used to live on either side of us have moved elsewhere because they never understood it when we begged off various events because we had to work.

Seems like your place is free of distraction, unless you are the one that caused it, joke. Is your place really quiet sis? I have a very loud and sounding house due to my dogs and of course the television and radio are always open. I don't have my own private moments.

Headphones is a good idea. Sometimes I use them when I don't want to be disturbed. Other times I use them when I don't want to disturb others such as when I want to listen to music. Sounds like headphones are a two-way street.

Headphones are the signals if you want others to know you are busy and focus on your work. This will avoid them for bothering you or not talking to you, instead they will tap you if they want to tell you something.

However, I am not using noise cancelling even during daytime because as I remember there were fires in the neighborhood that goes and down and I haven't known it because I was focused on online job.

Locked myself in the working station or the study room can help me to concentrate on my jobs without disturbing by the kids, but the little one will knock the door too some times.

That is a good idea. Locking yourself in a room can send a signal. It is like saying please "do not disturb me". It reminds me of the signs placed on the doorknob at a hotel.

Working at home can be very distractive, but if you are focused and you know you want to achieve something I think no amount of noise will take you away from your work. For me headphones are not really a good idea especially if am working on the computer I will end up listening to music instead

Yes that is the better idea. If you locked yourself in the room you are more focus on your work. No distraction at all, plus with good quality headphone, with your favorite music or mellow music in the background, surely you will feel comfortable.
